I need to get this out. Brand whoring is stupid, and you look stupid plastered with brands. Don't get me wrong, I love my Coach and Gucci, but you almost never see a label on me, and that is the difference between classy and trashy.

No only that, you are paying and in some cases paying a lot for the privilege of advertising for them.

I'm currently wearing Kenneth Cole shoes, Banana Republic Jeans and Boxers, and a J Crew shirt. Most comfortable outfit I could pick today. Nothing shrinks or falls apart in the wash. Well worth the money based on comfort and quality alone, and I'm not wearing anything because of the name on the tag.

Yeah, dc. I figured that avatar was meant to be sarcastic?
You wanna talk about brand hoaring [sic]? How 'bout the computers/electronics meant first as a fashion accessory, @pple!

I can't help it--or don't want to. I do not shop; I point and click. And for clothing I favor a particular catalogue store. Their logo is on some things, and on some things more prominantly than on others. At times I guess I'm a walking advertisement. Its the price I pay for convenience and quality merchandise.

My "brands" are all t-shirts with either weird fun stuff (I still wear my 'Free Winona' T with pride) or for things I don't mind (like Giant Robot or Juxtapoz gear, because they rock very hard).
some of my fave T slogans:
- eat your cookies
- I'd rather be fighting the man
- network engineers eat babies
- free winona, free kevin (duh)
- wal*marx corporate greed
I work in a casual place, work is levi's and a T (I tend to crawl on floors and get dirty, etc. - jobby mcjob stuff).

And that's the reason you should buy that kind of stuff. Because it is high quality.

Yes, and it has also been known to be Louis Vuitton.
However, this thread is about clothing, not avatars.

I currently buy the majority of my clothes at Old Navy and Target. They just happen to have the styles I like at the moment (I loooove the Mossimo line at Target).
That being said, I do own a Coach bag... but it was a birthday gift. I normally can't even afford a wallet at their outlet store!

Ok, now that I've had a day to calm down, I'll explain why I made this thread.
I was at the airport yesterday (big surprise) and there was a female there with Abercrombie sweatpants, an Abercrombie T, a large Vera Bradley bag, and a Chanel purse. I was irked by the insanely huge Abercrombie logos on the pants and shirt, but i really got torqued when I saw that she had left the tag on her Vera bag to like prove that it was real or something. That combination instantly put her in my book as a brand whore, and set off my rant.
People who buy things because they are good products don't worry if people know what brand it is, or care if people know if it is genuine or not.

Be careful and not blow a gasket, dc. Try practicing pity for a while. Or humor, as pity is most cruel. Aim for disinterest. Even if they have a Porshe key chain on obvious display, you don't even notice...

I don't ever say anything to a person that's guilty of brand-whoring. I have mixed emotions. I feel sorry that they feel the need to do it, and I'm also a bit angry at the societal establishment that teaches children that showing their brand name things makes them a better person. It just gets worse when they grow up and think that buying a Mercedes C230 makes them better because it is a Mercedes.
With regard to a person showing off their Porsche key, i don't mind that. I mind it even less if they are in a plain T and jeans. That shows me that it is just a car to them. Diddy said it best: "To you it's a Bentley, to me it's a blue car."
