Themes downloaded from AT&T Site -
08-26-2007, 07:40 PM
I downloaded two themes from the "mediaMall" on the AT&T site (I was logged into my acct. at the time). So i had them sent to me and when i tried to download them from my BB a screen popped up saying "this product is not compatible with your phone and your bill will not be charged"
I don't understand. AND PLEASE DON'T TELL ME TO PULL THE BATTERY OR DOWNLOAD THE CURRENT OS!!!
My bb-pearl is a month old and I assume it's got everything current.
Thanks,
Rolo

Rolo, I won't do what you ask me not to do.
But don't assume everything you said is correct.

Likely the themes you downloaded aren't compatible with your device or OS.

Unfortunately AT&T doesn’t sell themes that are formatted for the Pearl. According to a sales representative their themes are formatted for Nokia phones.

I was just kidding. I beleive then the OS is not current but that ticks me off that I have to keep downloading current OS. I don't feel comfortable doing this unless it comes from AT&T themsleves.
For example, I have itunes on my mac. Whenever there are updates they come from itunes themselves. I don't have to go to some other site to do this.
To update to the current OS from BB I can't do it unless I go somewhere else. Correct me if I am wrong?

You're wrong. All the updates come from RIM. Then they are released by the carriers as they see fit and are ready to support them.

Read the Sticky Note at the top of the 8100 Forum, follow the instructions there. It really is a simple process.
However, your themes should work, and ATT's site does have themes for the 8100.

Ok, I read the sticky and it says I can download the OS BUT it's from a T-MOBILE site! I use AT&T/Cingular. It does say that it works regardless of carrier. SO, why doesn't AT&T have this for their customers.
I don't pay for AT&T service so that I can go to T-Mobiles site do get current software!
Does anyone else see where I am coming from?

I see where you are coming from.
Carriers test and release when they choose, and mind you, the releases have ONLY very minor difference, which often apply on to the features that carrier desires, like Push To Talk for AT&T.

So your saying that they should not sell the BB Pearl if they aren't going to provide themes for them also? That is just plain ridiculous. They have the largest selection of phones, and come out with new ones all the time. The September-October lineup of phones is huge.
I think it is a lot to provide themes for EVERY phone, especially when new ones just keep on coming. That is such a MINOR thing to get frustrated about, and going to an AT&T store just to whine and yell at a rep for something so trivial just makes you look like an idiot.

No, whats ridiculous is a company providing technology and not providing the software/applications for it to run properly.
So if they sell BB, one would expect them to provide ringtones/themes that work for the phone THEY SELL.
Obviously, you don't know how to run a successful business Nuopus!
Minor or not, I pay for a service and I expect it to work the way I want. If I wanted my BB to operate like a $9.99 phone then thats what I expect but when pay $150-$200 I expect it to operate like one and for them to provide the tools for it to operate like one.

LOL obviously AT&T knows more than you because they have never provided themes for 100% of their phones, yet are extremely successful. They have huge buying power and customers flock to them like crazy for their phone selection and other reasons. THIS is what sells. Nobody I know of puts this much emphasis on themes being made available.
Its not that ridiculous, and they have proved it. You would make up a TINY percentage of people who think of this as a downside to a business model, and won't matter if they make you happy. They will always have phones without themes in their store. IT IS NOT A BIG DEAL ... NEVER WILL BE.

Well I know AT&T knows phones and is successful which is why I would expect them to provide themes and ringtones! And no where did I "put emphasis" as you put it on themes. It was a disappointment I suffered therefore they need to be aware of!
And do your research before you speak, It was cingular and they took over as AT&T. So Cingular had the client base. Yes, AT&T is known but did not provide mobile service!

I guess I don't know how to read!
Close the thread~! I thought as a forum people are entitled to speak freely.
And secondly, thats really sad that one cannot discuss something or bring up a topic without it being considered a "rant or rave".
If a moderator means you make these decisions and it makes you feel good then do so!

You see .. the way AT&T is doing business seems to be the norm for big businesses being run in the US. Right now I am with AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. I HAVE been with Sprint and Cricket. EVERY SINGLE ONE provides phones where they have more support for one brand than others. These are AMERICAN companies. And you are telling me that its not the norm for businesses run here? Your biggest company Microsoft is notorious for screwing others, especially other companies in its industry. Companies and states sue, yet is still huge. So don't tell me that is not the way things are run here, because all of the US companies say otherwise.
This is not a perfect world. Companies are not perfect, people are not perfect. Maybe in YOUR world, American companies provide perfect service and give themes for 100% of everything they sell, but in THIS world, nobody does. I want you to show me one cell phone company that is perfect like you say businesses in america are run.
Unless you prove otherwise, because the facts speak against you ... people pay for for cell phone service and devices. Companies provide consumer support for mainly their highest grossing phones, which means some phones and not others. And most people don't really care that they DONT provide themes for 100% of what they sell. This is the way it is from ALL cell companies, so unless you prove otherwise ... everything you have said is idiotic and full of hot air. There is REALITY ... the one I see now, and YOUR REALITY, which seems to exist only in your head.

Rolo - Yes, people are allowed to speak their mind here (to a point) as it is an open forum.
However, from what I understand from this thread, you are upset that you cannot get a certain theme from AT&T for your Pearl, since it not available/compatible with your device. Am I understanding that correctly?
Do all of the basic functions work on your device - email, phone, internet, etc? If so, then I'm not sure I see a true problem, but rather just your frustration over an 'add on' to your otherwise working device.
AND, if that's all the case, then this really is a 'rant and rave' thread.
Am I missing something?
