Thumbs up Horrah for the Curve! - 09-04-2007, 07:44 PM

Well somewhere in the world there is a statistic that says "If people love it, they will enjoy it and say nothing. If people hate it, they will tell everyone about it but use it anyways if they can." It's not always true, but for the most part, it holds.

Well I don't want to be a statistic. Here I am with my brand new BlackBerry 8300 Curve. I can honestly say, this is the BEST handheld device (PDA, Smartphone, regular phone etc.) that I have EVER used. A good chunk of my praise goes to the innovative BlackBerry OS, so I'll try to keep my raves to the phone itself.

Some useful info before I start going on... I used to own an HP Jornada PDA, after that an HP hx2490 Windows Mobile Device, then a Blackberry 7290. While owning the HP Units, I have owned an LG 500 Phone (Bell) and a Motorolla V551 (Rogers).

I have had my curve for almost a month now. And here is why I think it's the best phone/smartphone PDA I have ever used...

The Size... It's in a word, Perfect. It's no where as big as my HP units, and as much as I liked my 7290, the 7290 had that annoying button on the side that was easily pushed to end the call. In addition to that, the 7290 was wide and fat. it felt fine in your hands but not up to your ear. The Curve is the perfect size, in both width, and legnth. It is a very comfortable phone to hold and use. I have tried an 8800 for a couple days and I found that to be too wide.

The Trackball... at first it was sweird switching from the scroll wheel, but man, once you get used to it, it's a god-send. Again, the width of the phone puts it in perfect reach of my thumb.

The Keyboard... Unlike some of the other Blackberry's on the market this has the perfect spacing between the keys so that more than one letter isn't pushed at the same time.

Adaptive Lighting... Easily my favourite feature of the Curve (and the newer Blackberries), the auto dimming and self-illuminating keyboard and screen is amazing. it's perfect. The best idea on the blackberry so far.

I probably could go on, but those are my main points. It's such a pleasure to use this device. A BIG thumbs up to the people at RIM that designed this wonderful smartphone.

So, it's flawless? As someone who's used a lot of these (altho you didn't mention the Palms), if you could sit down w/RIM's UI and design team, how would you suggest they improve?

I never said it was flawless. I said that it is the best PDA/Handheld that I have ever used.

The only things I refered to as "perfect" was it's size and it's auto-backlight feature. However I use the word "perfect" as a figure of speech. What may be perfect to me, may not be perfect to everyone.
