Default Opinion on Verizon Suing FCC on 700mHZ - 09-17-2007, 08:01 PM

Curious what your collective opinion is on Verizon suing the FCC over the rules for the 700mHZ band auction. Mine is that Verizon is acting like a spoiled brat. If they don't like the rules then they don't have to bid on the spectrum.

Dawg,
Thats why I included the "don't care" as it is a valid response. I went to the local Verizon place tonight to replace my wifes busted Razor. The lady changed it out for free and I was sure it was out of warrenty. Always nice people in the Verizon storefront.

I asked when etc. about the GPS and the lady told me that a lot of people have cussed them out over the issue and basically they have no idea when or if the GPS will be activated. No win situation for the employees in the stores. I still think that Verizon is a rudderless ship in the wireless ocean. Their business model could become obsolete very quickly.

so funny. the public owns the airwaves per federal regulation. VZW says FCC is overstepping their bounds by giving the public open access to the spectrum instead of a legalized monopoly. how backwards.

makes it apparent why our telecom infrastructure is years behind asia and europe.

silly boys.

Borg is right, Verizon just trying to protect themselves at the expense of the public.

I'm with Dawg on this one... I pay a fee for service and can care less what T-Mo does with the moola... Now if they raise my fee because they moola was squandered then that's another story....

Interesting points so far:

1. Spectrum is owned by the public and at least part of it should be open
2. Don't care
3. Companies can spend their income anyway they want to
4. Our current wireless business model has the United States behind in technology

So, lets raise another question. Is it right that Verizon trys to stop another company, lets say TMobile, from bidding on the spectrum and following the rules.

I think the one side is overlooking the consequences of the move by Verizon and the other Telcos involved.
Any corp. has to anwser to both regulators and their owners.
Customers want the best tech for the best price however in my opinion changing the rules on the spectrum would both hurt new tech and hurt pricing.
This is not a normal Cell phone spectrum, Google is the new player looking into the spectrum for potentially some very good reasons, the Telcos are not happy and are looking to cover themselves for their business. This is what they need to do but it does not make it good for the public.

No it for me has nothing to do with taking shots at Verizon. I think all the opponents are trying to protect their interests but it looks like its in the people best interest that they do not succeed (unless you own them).

700 MHz Explained in 10 Steps « GigaOM
Good articles explaining the ideas being tossed around for the spectrum and the potential of it. Its clear why the major cell carriers are nervous about what could come of this.

I know, it was a shot at the many many Verizon haters.

I'm just rooting against them all in this fight.
