Thumbs down 8310 GPS Software that stores in Flash? - 09-21-2007, 02:23 AM

Why is it that with the advent of mass storage (4GB MicroSD) that these devices are capable of using, that BB Maps, et al, are unable to store data on a flash and access from there rather than pulling data from the network?

I won't go on a long rant about Rogers lack of REAL data plans in Canada, but there's no way I'm paying $10/month for Telenav software, nor am I going to encourage the use of other software that is constantly eating away at my ridiculously pathetic data plan (25MB??? Rogers, are you listening? Is this some insipid joke?).

PDAs, your car, and dedicated GPS devices have been doing this for YEARS.. why is it so difficult for software providers to comprehend this notion on a mobile phone that has access to 4GB of storage?!

I'm more than willing to pay ONCE for GPS software or maps I can load onto the flash, but I'm not going to destroy a puny data plan or pay $10/month (and probably STILL have to pay the data plan on top of it) for the service -- sorry, that's just not sane.

Hopefully, it will come. Blackberrys with media cards have only been out for a year. That's a relatively short time.

I suppose I wasn't aware of the tenure of media access on the BlackBerry devices, though I still feel my rant is justified.
