Thumbs down Black berry 8800 arrived today.I hate it! - 10-10-2007, 12:39 PM

My new black berry arrived today , & it's fiendishly complicated, all I want to do is copy my contacts from my old phone to it , do they make it easy ? Do they ####! The key pad is tiny rendering it practically useless for my "stranglers hands" , It's going back tomorrow in my 7 day cool off before I run out into the street screaming & stamp up and down on it! Can anyone inform me how this "devils work" device can in any way make my business running any easier?

Wow.... Well I am sorry that you are disapppointed with your purchase. There is nothing that can be done on the keyboard, it's a full qwerty and I don't think they make them larger. You may want to start here with some basics and then go from there.

Wow. Just because YOU can't work with it, it must be hell for everyone else too? I can't survive without mine. And, there are millions of others that love BB, or their market standing, popularity, and dominance wouldn't be there for years now would it?

They were giving them away with my new mobile phone contract, I knew they'd be a catch. How do you do something as simple as copy your contacts for instance, there's no mention at all of how do it in the manual book or PDF, I tried with a bluetooth connection but it apparently doesn't support transferring contacts !

herrbohnen, sounds like you just discovered the blackberry is a blackberry. If a cell phone is all you wanted and you just came here to vent, carry on and return the blackberry as you plan to do and get something else that works for you. On the other hand, the blackberry is not complicated. It is a very useful device, and reliable. This site and the sister site blackberryfaq.com will help you get the most from that 8800 if you do think a blackberry is for you.

Well, it syncs your contacts using a number of different desktop software, including the very popular Outlook. This is mentioned in the manual, as well as a very readily available icon called SYNCHRONIZATION in your Desktop software.

Normally, you would just sync the contacts in your other phone with Outlook. That will bring all of your contacts to your desktop. Then, just synchronize it again with your BlackBerry. My parents use their Treo and BlackBerry, and both have the same contacts because they both sync with Outlook.

BB is popular becaue of the messaging features not seen in other phones.

As for your contacts, can you import from your old phone into Outlook? Then you can easily sync Outlook with the BB. If you give the BB a chance you may end up an addict like the rest of us. You've been given some good resources above. Check them out and give it a try.

Ya ... I have talked to a few people at our school that did not like their BlackBerries, because all they wanted was a phone with MP3 features. They don't realized that BB is more than just a simple phone. It can do a lot more, and if "a lot more" is what you don't need, you will be overwhelmed.

To the original poster, a blackberry is not just a phone. It is a mobile push email solution for people that need to get and respond to email on the go. It is a PDA with great calendaring and appointment scheduling features, as well as a platform for getting wireless information. A mobile phone can NEVER replace a BlackBerry, and a BlackBerry should not replace a regular phone if that is all you need.

One last bit of advice, from me at least, herrbohnen. To get a handle on the blackberry it is useful to understand the objectives of the blackberry product. Instant email, pushed to the device is #1 of course. Next at the top of the list is reliabilty, security, data economy.... I hope you get the idea. Security is a biggee. That's what I mean by the blackberry is a blackberry. It is different.

As mentioned, Blackberry devices can be complicated to first time users. Even switching from one Blackberry model to another can be difficult for some. I have users moving from a 7520 to an 8830 and they have to adjust to the smaller keypad and the trackball. They did not like it at first either, but with time they got used to it. I just say hang in there for a few days and see if you grow accustomed to it. I think that you will. You will come to love the device and all it can do for you.

It took me a few days to warm up to the 8800! Don't have it anymore but I do mis it! Give it a few more days! Also as has been said should have gone to store and tested device before purchasing

Yeah, give it some time. 8800 is a great device.

Desktop Manager is used to sync your PC desktop organizer with the blackberry. If you have that installed you can check for complete list of what you can sync with, but it includes Outlook, Ascii Importer/Exporter, Outlook Express, Lotus Organizer... even Yahoo. So, can you get your Nokia address book sync'd with the PC, even into an Ascii file?

couple of ways... are you contacts save from your old sim ? if yes, go to addressbook, click sim phone book, as previously mentioned by other members, you can also use outlook.

good luck
