New 8830 on Bell Mobility.

Messenger has two quirks:

1. I can't specify how I want to add a contact. Used be a selection for PIN or email - now it goes straight to the address book without giving an option

2. When I add a contact, I immediately receive a 'request' in the same messenger window from myself! It comes from my gmail account which I have syncing to the BB (non-default). If I accept that request, it removes the name of the person who was supposed to get the request from the pending list below... How could that be happening??? the address book entries I choose to send these requests to have the right email addresses. I can receive messenger requests from others.

When you select "add a contact" and it goes to address book, simply highlight the contact (don't click on it) and hit menu key. Then select "Pin" contact.

Now the 2nd issue is still a problem... it's very strange and I can't figure out why it happens...

As for your 2nd problem, I bet that it is because you are sending the request via email, and due to Gmail's 'conversation' email system, you get a copy of every email you send.

You can fix this by setting up a Filter on your BIS account for the Gmail account to not send email to the device if it is From your own Gmail account.

That's precisely what I thought the source of the problem was - but I still can't figure out why messenger uses gmail (non-default) to send the request?!

Anyway - thanks! the fix worked - I hadn't notice filters could be applied on the BIS...

...is it possible that your BB will send messages to the contacts in your address book using the email account that was last used to communicate with that specific person?

bitablespore, that is likely the reason.
As composing a new email to a person does this.
