Here are some steps to set a custom email and/or SMS notification for someone. For example, if you want your wife's notification to be loud and all others to be medium volume. This is how you do it.

I never looked into what BB OS versions this will work with. Basically as long as there is the option to create a new Exception in Profiles, you are able to do this. I have tested as low as 4.1.0.377.


Open Profiles
Create a new profile. It will be used for that person only.
Name the profile. The person's name is good.
Edit Messages notifications to what you would like.
Save the profile

Create a new Exception. It will be used for that person and profile only.
Name the Exception. The person's name is good.
Add their name to the Name field.
Change 'Use Profile' to be the profile ou created.
Edit the Custom Phone Tone if you would like.
Save the Exception

Now when you get email from that user it will use the custom Message notification. The same custom Profile for that person applies for SMS messages from them and phone calls.

so one would have to create a profile for EVERY contact ?

In my BB 8320, one can create an excception, give it a name, associate it with a profile, and add a number of names.

dialekt, you need to create one profile for each different sound you want. So if you want each person to have a diffeent email sound, then yes.

It is a complex answer to a problem I have heard of many people asking before.

This issue I am trying to overcome is that when you setup an exception it notifies you independently of the active profile. For example, I have a tone set for my boss as an exception pointing to a new profile but when I have the vibe profile selected it will only send that tone when an email received from my boss.

Not sure how to work around.
