I'm having an issue with tethering my 8320 to my laptop as a modem. I am unable to get the proper COM port option in Desktop Manager.
I followed the tethering directions on the BB website, and it worked properly for about 30 seconds, and then the connection froze and refused to reconnect. Any attempts since then have just timed out.
In troubleshooting, I checked COM ports, and the only COM option in Desktop Manager corresponded to my laptop's built-in modem, not the "Standard Modem." You can't change the COM port of the Standard Modem, but I tried changing the laptop's modem, and Desktop Manager just changed its COM to match the laptop's modem again.
I uninstalled everything (the uninstall program locked near the end, but it looked like it had finished), then disabled the laptop's modem, hoping to get it "out of the way." Then I reinstalled, and no dice. Now it doesn't list any COM port options in Desktop Manager. I checked, and there are RIM Viritual COM ports on COM3 and COM4. The Standard Modem is installed on COM3.
The only options I have for connection settings in Desktop Manager are "none" and "USB." The USB connection works fine for transfers, but obviously not for tethering.
Not sure where to go from here.
