It allows for VZ navigator to use GPS. Doesnt actually install the software. You have to 'rent' it from Verizon for monthly fee.

I was wondering if it makes any sense to upgrade to the lastest, .176 (I think) version for Verizion. I don't want or need the vznavigator, I bought a puck and I like it fine, thank you. But I don't want to get behind on upgrades and find out that I needed .176 for something else. I tried to read what I could about the upgrade and it doesn't look like I need it, but I am not sure. I would like to get everyone's thoughts.

Thanks.

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830: BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

Will this update rid me of the blue circle in the latest Google Update (2.0)?

Question Error 561

I have tried to use app load to upgrade to the new VZW OS and cannot get it to work.

I went throught about half the install the first time and then my BB screen says "561" with an icon that has a circle with a line throught it.

I have tried to run app loader again and cannot get past the first step "Connect to device."

My bb still says "561" and the app loader pops up wioth this message:

"The destop loader is unable to connect to the device.

You may need to enter the passowrd on the device."

My options are: "Retry" and "Cancel."

Thoughts?

I was during the initial upgrade. But I went straight into the laptop when I tried app loader again.

Default blackberry 4.2 OS review

Downloaded 4.2 on my 8703e. Here is a list of upside and downside points, and
improvements which are still needed. The upsides are nice, but the downsides are
annoying enough that I would switch back until a better version comes out (any idea
how long that will be for Verizon?) If it didn't take so much time and effort.

Downside (anybody know of a way to address/minimize these?):

Under 4.1, when I did a search to display only emails in my inbox, and then "filed"
emails in another folder (besides the inbox), the filed emails would, helpfully, go
away and no longer be displayed in the search results. This is unfortunately no
longer the case. Deleted emails seem to go away, but not always. (Does anyone have
any idea how to fix this?! Maybe it is a setting of some kind ...)

Under 4.1, I was able to reliably click on links in websites and paste text into
forms. Now this does not always work -- some links are not clickable and I don't
get a menu when I click in the scroll wheel while in a text box. I thought this
might have to with having all the browser settings set to turn off options (eg,
javascript, tables, style sheets), but changing that does not change anything. This
is a notable descrease in functionality. The problem is somewhat ameliorated if I
click "all images," and then click the link.

4.2 is definitely slower in browsing through email and "filing" emails. The newest
Google Maps runs so slowly that I often end up wheeling past a selection thinking
the cursor stopped moving when it was really just catching up.

Under 4.1, when I used web shortcuts, the target page automatically came up. Now, I
have to click in the scroll wheel to get the target page to display after it is
loaded up.

Battery charging indicator harder to see (used to be a lightning bolt across
battery, now an A/C plug bext to battery). Also, the numeric battery strength
display (activated by typing "N-U-M-L-L" from the home page), doesn't seem to work
as it often displays what looks like a negative number even when signal strength is
high.

Upside:

More options to search email, including ability to limit search to drafts.
Ability to transfer pictures instead of downloading only.
Ability to get ringtones.
Ability to attach files.
Abiity to forward memopad notes without copy/paste.
Opening attachments seems to reveal more text without clicking "more" than before.
There is an option to enter passwords for PDF files, but I haven't been able to get
it to work so far.
Google maps with location.
Newest Zen theme allows prior, clutter-free arrangement, but also replaces
"windows"-style menu with icons on a ribbon.
Page overview on web browser (can view page as a whole and go right to a specific part)
Browser history goes back one week.
Ability to add pictures to specific callers.
Ability to have SMS messages on a separate list.
Calculator has to/from metric conversions built-in.
Ability to transfer addressbook by bluetooth.
Bigger font for time and, when locked, owner information in Zen theme.
Ability to send and receive photos via bluetooth.
Ability to rename photos/ringtones and see detailed "properties" information.
Ability to view recent cached webpages offline.
Zen theme shows profile in use on home page and when locked.

Still needed (if these capabilities are available now, wven with software, but I
just don't know how to use them, please say so):

Message list dedicated to just dekstop email, like the one that is accessed by
individual icons for additional email accounts.
Voice memos.
More programmable buttons (at least I'd like to be able to program the red button).
Ability to forward an attachment without forwarding the text of the email carrying
the attachment.
Ability to save text of a website for offline viewing.
Searchable browser history.
Ability to determine snooze time when a reminder pops up (instead of just the
customizable default).
Better IE emulation on web browser - able to only access "mobile" versions of some
sites regardless of settings (this was an issue with 4.1 too).
Ability to sync (with outlook) and view (separately and together) multiple calendars.
Ability to set "reply to" on a per-email basis (bbreply doesn't work for me - I get
the "field added to a manager while it is already parented" message).
