OK, so now RIM has released a "real" phone, I have a list of features I'd like to see:

1) Multimedia loader; as part of the desktop app, a method to load images and ringtones onto the device.

2) A call log sync feature, possibly syncing the call log into the Outlook Journal

3) MMS editor, even though it doesn't have a camera, I'd like to be able to send MMS messages

4) More and better games

5) More themes, and a public theme editor.

I'm sure it's hard for RIM to see themsleves as makers of a real "smartphone" but I am convinced that a 7100 with the RIM OS is a better product than a Nokia or Siemens with a mini Blackberry client.

If RIM does it's homework right then they are in a position to accomplish great things.

I can't wait for a RIM handheld with REAL Bluetooth implementation, a 1.3MP camera, MMS etc.... Add an MP3 player, video capability and WiFi and these Canadians could very well be the next Nokia. Their OS and UI are miles ahead of anything Motorola or SonyEricsson could ever make.

Agreed! Add to the list:

6) Ability to re-organize location of icons/apps on the ribbon (move some into groups, out of groups, create new groups, etc.

7) Ability to fully customize / reorganize the web bookmarks.

8) Ability to work with external Bluetooth keyboards (hopefully, bluetooth keyboard transmissions are as fully secure as bluetooth headset transmissions)

9) More freedom for RIM: Splitting business division and consumer divisions; and makes government-satisfying secure device in the business division, and a cameraphone and 100% full bluetooth profile support in the consumer division. It could even be a different brandname, like "BerryMedia". (Easier for distinction for security purposes: BlackBerry phones allowed -- but no BerryMedia phones.)

All good stuff!

10) Voice Dialing: Without it, the bluetooth headset profile is only half as useful and makes it a dangerous prospect to dial someone while driving. This may be a tall order, but perhaps it doesn't need to be phone dependant, maybe T-Mo can come up with something ala Sprint's voice dialing setup, so it would, hopefully, cut out any limitation by the phone.

THere's a nice Top 10 right there. Now someone package it up, ship it to RIM, and tell them 700+ users on this board agree they should get these in the works.

I always use:

1, 3, 5, and 6 should all be addressed in Desktop Manager 4.0 and the accompanying developers kit. (due out Jan. 2005)

In addition, the biggest feature in the 4.0 suite is the ability to do a completely wireless sync (new encryption keys, contacts, notes, everything).

Yeah, but are these new features only available via BES? The link you provided calls it BB Enterprise v4.0.

Although it is associated with Blackberry Enterprise R4, some of the features (like media downloads from your PC) would imply that they are available regardless of which e-mail service and data service you are using.

There is no additional information, so it is up for interpretation until someone has more info...

Dear RIM Santa... I wish I could somehow keep my message types seperate. (SMS, Missed Calls, my voicemail notices, my company email, my personal email -- I can even handle company email and personal mixing.) It's just an extended process sometimes to sort through EVERYTHING to find an email and I can't seem to get the folder view to be default, always have to change it everytime. Since I am a newbie, maybe this is possible and I'm missin' the setting. Maybe a folder view like outlook with a number next to each folder representing new messages.

1. Responding from the 1 to 10 accounts you can pop from. Right now you can only respond from one address you choose as your sent from on the web client. Most people today have atleast 2 accounts they actively use.

2.

A. Inserting an address in the Email body, can only be done by attaching the address. In a form only easily readable by outlook and other blackberries.

B. to add a number from an email to someone already in the address book. You have to copy the number, exit the email go to the address book, find the person, then edit the data.


3. assigning ringtones to categories in the address book.

4. call screening ( the below link, is the best I have seen to date for call screening, it's a 3rd party app for the p910). Any please PM, if they know of anything good for call screen for the BB.

1. put the @ sign in the keyboard not the SYM library
2. make the convenience key mappable
3. make the 6 keys at the bottom left and right of the keyboard more accessible; they are used a lot and they are smaller due to the taper of the 7100 r and t handsets (can't comment on the v)
4. make the clip on the case rotatable (is that a word?)

I'd like free/bust status for appts.
Perhaps color coded text in contacts and calendar by category.

Noise reduction, please. I never really thought about it before cause I never had a issue with previous phones... but my 7100t picks up EVERYTHING! Every caller on the other end complains that the road noise is loud, the background noise at the mall or a conference is too loud, even if I fill up a glass of water while on the phone, people go "Damn, are near a waterfall?"

:o( I tried a motorola HS810 bt headset but it didn't help at all. Anyone else had this issue? I'm curious if it's just my phone or if it's the 7100 in general. People will barely talk to me when I'm in the car or anywhere with moderate background noise -- they tell me to call back when I am inside. :(

Anyway, just a thought. I just don't think I should have to pay $100-$350 for a noise reduction bt headset in addition to the cost of the 7100....

I have the same problem too, but it goes away when using the handsfree set that comes with the phone.

I have the same back ground noise problem as well. I am on my THIRD 7100g (yes cingular). I think it makes no difference, because it's not related to the network.

For those of you who say that they have never experienced the problem, do this: Drive in your car at about 40MPH w/ the windows rolled up, radio off, and fan low. Call your home/office voicemail and don't say much. You will hear a TREMENDOUS amount of background noise! This is what everyone hears when they talk to you. I did something further. On the same stretch of road, I left myself another voicemail from my cheap (FREE), 2 year old Nokia phone on Cingular. Same driving conditions, and it was so quiet that my voicemail would hang up because it thinks I am done leaving a message. This occurs w/ or w/o the headset.

This is the WORST cell phone I've ever had as well, and I've had cell phones since the TRANSPORTABLE (cell phone in a suit case) cell phone days! If we all complain to RIM, perhaps somebody will do something about it. I can't believe this is their new flagship product.

Has any progress been made on BT syncing? I don't see anything coming up in the searches.
