Default Password doesn't work!!

Please Login to Remove!

I was looking for a good policy.bin file and the sticky in this forum worked out great. I tested the app that was giving "external/internal firewall error and after the new policy.bin it worked! In also tried to make the password less than six digits and it accepted it, hooray!
Then the blackberry timed out and locked itself, which is normal. Now my blackberry won't unlock. I connected back to DTM and my password "wer" works. So, why it wouldn't work on the blackberry itself? I checked numlock/capslock, took the battery out but no luck. Also, tried the previous password. What the hell????
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

I did follow the instructions. I have done this many times before. Ok, new update. I wiped it again, and made password zxczxc and i was able to unlock my blackberry. Then i changed it again to zxc and damn it same problem, couldn't unlock. So, it looks like it lets you create a 3 digit password but then you can't unlock!

This may be a silly question, but is your Blackberry still connected to a BES?

Why have you had to do this so many times in the past? Has it taken and unlocked with a 3-digit code in the past?

I always thought 4 was the minimum....

Yeah, it's my evil policy.bin to harass the entire Blackberry community. You got me. Can't believe it helped so many people before you found me out.

The reason i said i have done this many time before meant on other blackberry's I own. Secondly, yes four digits password works. Three digit password will not let you unlock. I'll just be careful not to change my password to three digits. I plan to generate my own policy file and test it. Then I'll post it in the forum. By the way i also tested this policy file on a 7290 and same problem with the password. This clearly tell me that it's not the device but the policy.

I encountered same problem as the original poster.

Used to be on BES. Left that job and wanted to wipe the security policy.
Used policy.bin and instructions found here.
Discovered (to my delight) that it didn't require minimum password length anymore, so I set a short 2-character one.
All was well. Went to bed, turned off phone.
Woke in morning, powered up, wouldn't accept either the new or old password.
Could connect through desktop manager with new (2-character) pw, but not on device.

Solution: Had to wipe and restore and set it back to 4 characters.

Moral of the story: stronger passwords are better!
