Default Email deleting and confusion

Please Login to Remove!

Now I'm thoroughly confused. I very much like the option to "Delete from handheld and server" and it was working fine for a while. Then when I finally was able to log into BIS and work with the email settings, I found "synchronize" unchecked on all accounts, so I checked it. Then the "delete from handheld and server" stopped working, which seems counterintuitive.

So I went back and unchecked it, and now it deletes mails from the server again. So much for intuitions. What exactly does the "synchronize" option on the BIS email screen do?

On the device, there's "wireless reconcile", which I have "on", and "on conflicts", which I have set to "handheld wins". Are these settings correct, if I want to be able to delete mail from the device and server, when prompted? (I have "on prompt" selected too)

edit: I've tested again, and it looks like the emails aren't deleting from the server again. I have no idea what's going on.

I was puzzled by this as well. I suspect that when you enable synch on BIS it automatically deletes it from the server when you delete on the HH. I think it only asks when you have it disabled.

No, I think the "Prompt" option on the device determines whether it asks.

But at the moment I can't seem to get it to work.

On BIS there's the option to "synchronize deleted mails" option. On the device there is the "On conflict" option, which may or may not be relevant. I just want it to work as it was working before I started fooling around with these settings. That is, when I delete something on the Curve, and then click on "Delete on handheld and server", it should be deleted from the server. I *know* it was working, because last Friday I was logged into my university account and was in the office, reading mails on Thunderbird. A spam came in, and shortly after beeped on the BB. I deleted it on the BB, and clicked on "Delete on handheld and server" and withing about 10 seconds it was gone from Thunderbird as well. I thought that was pretty cool. That's the behavior I want, but I can't seem to get it anymore.

Problem solved: I had "wireless reconcile" on, and that doesn't work with BIS. With that OFF, and "mailbox wins" on conflict, email deletion works as it should.

I have BIS, work email access via IMAP, all settings set as you note but also have Wireless Reconcile on, and delete from Handheld, or delete from Mailbox and Handheld both work.

Also make sure the option is set to prompt in the "Delete On" Section.

Interesting. I've been told that Wireless Reconcile is only for BES accounts. For some reason, it was apparently getting in the way. I spent hours last night experimenting with different configurations and sending test messages, and the best I could come up with is...

1. Set "Delete on Prompt" in Email Reconciliation menu
2. Check "Synchronize deleted mail" in BIS email configuration
3. Set "On conflict, mailbox wins" in Email Reconciliation menu
4. Turn "Wireless reconcile" off in Email Reconciliation menu

These settings get the job done. If step 4, is superfluous, I must have made a mistake along the way, but at least it does no harm.

Update, further weirdness....

I have four accounts. I tested all of them last night and "delete from server" was working fine with the above settings. I tested this morning, and three of them are working fine. The other one, which definitely worked last night, isn't working now, i.e., "delete from server" doesn't. I haven't changed anything.

So I went into BIS and found the "synchronize deleted mail" grayed out, with the following message beneath it, "Synchronization of deleted items is unavailable because Wireless Reconciliation is disabled on your device." Yeah, but it worked okay last night with that setting, and it works on the other accounts with that setting.

edit: Called CC, had to delete and recreate account to get it to work.

So I went to the device and turned "wireless reconcile" ON. But so far, the BIS account manager doesn't know about it. I tried resending service books and doing battery pull. Time to call CC, I think.
