Default Calendar option on old appointments

Please Login to Remove!

I have had the same problem as other posters (eg knishfish on 18 Jan 08) with Desktop Manager wanting to delete hundreds of old calendar items when syncing with Outlook.

I saw the advice (e.g. NCBuckeye to same post) to change the calendar option "Keep appointments" to "forever". Sounds sensible but I'm damned if I can find this option on my handheld (8100): open calendar/open menu/choose options and...no "Keep appointments" option or similar is shown. I have even looked at the calendar options for Outlook (2007) and again no such option.

Or am I missing something? This is driving me crazy as I need to keep old items and be able to edit them.

On the curve it is the third one from the bottom. Not sure what to say about the pearl except it should be there.

Not sure if it's something that can be implemented into a IT policy (disabling that option) but it could be. Are you on a BES?

Default Calendar options on pearl

Just for completeness, Calendar Options on the Pearl (8100) are:

-Initial View
-Enable Quick Entry
-Default Reminder
-Snooze
-Start of Day
-End of Day
-First Day of Week
-Confirm Delete
-Show Free Time in Agenda View
-Show End Time in Agenda View
-Show Tasks

Then at bottom it reports the number of entries.

I'm not connected to a BES but it does make senes that this is a handset configuration question.

I'm currently working through a similar problem. I think that the "keep appointments" option doesn't appear in the BB's calendar options unless you select "Transfer All scheduled items" under Desktop Manager's advanced sync configuration settings for the calender task first.

My wife and I both got new Curves last week and after I noticed that all appointments older than 60 days were missing from my BB, I started researching and digging around in menus. I made the change to my DM sync settings, but not my wife's. This morning, I checked her BB and found that while I had the "keep appointments" setting in my BB, it was missing from hers.

Default BB Pearl - bug fix for keeping old appointments

I have finally found a fix for the problem on the BB Pearl (8100) that there is no "Keep Appointments" option, which means that you cannot prevent old calendar items from being deleted.

This has been recognized by the BB people as a problem. In their horrible jargon "This is a previously reported issue that has been escalated internally to our development team. No resolution time frame is currently available." and in English "Yup, we screwed up, and although we keep getting bugged about it, we have more important things on our minds, as this phone is already out of date." To be fair, despite the BS they have posted a fix on the blackberry.com site. (So why can't they learn to speak proper like wot I do?)

Go to the Knowledge Base Article KB14214 , download the file attached there and install as instructed - it worked for me! All my old calendar items are kept on the device and do not get removed from Outlook on synchronization.

Phew!
