Default How to activate over the air?

Does BES 4.1 allow you to activate devices over the air by default? I can activate my BB 8830 by plugging it into the server but I want to be able to do this over the air. What if my BES server was thousands of miles away?

I plugged my email address and password into the BB 8830 and it just sits there saying "Activating". The status on the server says "Initializing".

I do it all the time between Illinois where the server is and NY, DC and San Fran offices. Did you correctly set the activation password on the BES? WHen I walk users through this they sometimes try to use their log in password instead of the activation password or they (I do it too...) typo the email address....or they don't have/maintain a good signal

Yes. I right-clicked on the user in BES and selected Set Activation Password. On the BB 8830 I typed in the email address and the password I set in BES and it just sits there saying "Activating". Eventually it will time out with "The server is not responding. Please contact your System Administrator".

Update: Before leaving work yesterday I stopped the BlackBerry Router service on the BES server. I restarted it when I came in this morning and I was able to activate my BB 8830 over-the-air. Not sure why this is but it is finally working. What a pain.

Another Update: Trying to activate second BB 8830 and I'm having the same problem; it sits at the activating screen. This is very frustrating. I am not at all impressed with this software. GoodLink was a piece of cake compared to BB.

Not sure why you are having trouble - as I said I do this several times a day and the only problems I have are usually related to the account being wrong (no BES data) or the email address or password are typoed....

Seems every time I want to activate a new device I have to stop and start the BlackBerry Router service on BES. What a pain.

Update: I wiped one of my devices so that I could re-activate it and document the steps. I'm now back to the same problem: cannot activate over-the-air. I've tried stopping and starting the BB Router service on BES with no results. How frustrating. I'm stuck since my company will not pay for support.
