Unhappy Can't connect BB8310 to desktop manager

Please Login to Remove!

Hi I am new to Bb and i need some help in connecting my BB8310 to my laptop(Sony SZ1) using desktop manager. When I open the desktop manager it shows "disabled" and the icon on the task bar is crossed with a red cross.
I tried to uninstall the desktop manager and reinstalled several times which seems to have solved the problems for some of users who had similar problems.
But it's not working for me. Is there any other solution. I checked my firewall settings as well.
Any help is much appreciated. Pls Pls help...

What version of DM do you have, and what OS on your laptop.

Vista requires either DM v. 4.2.2, Service Pack 2, or version 4.2.

hmm, then you should be perfectly fine.

Is that "disabled" with or without the BB plugged in via USB?

My first recommendation (sounds too simple) is to reboot both devices, PC and BB. On the BB, with it powered on, remove the battery from the BB, hold a few seconds, replace and reboot.

Hi JSanders, thanks for the advice. I tried every thing you mentioned. But no luck. As soon as I try to open DM it shows "disabled" with the cross on the icon on the taskbar.
I tried onnecting my BB using usb and nothing happens when I click detect. It shows as nodevice found. The bluetooth options are greyed and I am trying to resolve that issue aswell. The excitement of having bought a BB is wearing off. But I will get there........

I understand. Sometimes matters like this are obviously shoot in the dark and hope something hits. This does sounds like a laptop issue with your USB ports.

Does anything work plugged to your USB ports? Do you have a USB thumb drive or anything? Look in your laptop's device drivers and try to determine why they are disabled.

I'm sorry, you said "bluetooth options are greyed" and my mind went to USB.

Ok, I don't know... stumped. I have seen this issue before cleared up if you install with Admin rights. You might try that.

Also, read this for further tips:
How to Perform a Clean Uninstall/Reinstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software

And then try installing DM 4.3?
