Exclamation RIM OS registry concept??

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,
Does some one know if there isn any information available whether there is registry concept in RIM OS as we have a registry for windows mobiles where in all the information about the OS and it's components information will be stores like the keys, licenses etc.

Usually if we see windows desktop OS there will be a registry associated with OS which we can manipulate. Please help me out if you haev some information on this context.

Thanks & Regards,
Siva Charan.

also this is extremely suspicious. Asking about virus names, OS Architecture, and now registry entries? It sounds like you are trying to hack the OS or develop a virus for the device

My eyes must be deceiving me perhaps.
Virus?? I seem to be missing that word from the original post somehow.
Guess I need to read in-between the lines harder.

Oh! And it is a fairly common trick being used to enhance feature-sets
-by tweaking registry settings- especially on Windows based phones/handhelds.

Hacking, yes! Virus for the device by asking about the Registry???
A little bit far-fetched doesn't it seem?

Isn't modifying the Blackberry.alx file to enable other Carrier themes
hacking in a way too?

Changing a .ALX is not changing the behavior of the BlackBerry. It simply allows THEMES to be used. That is hardly hacking.

And yes, the original purpose of this thread is suspicious.

Exclamation Common You are going a long way

Hey all,

There is nothing suspicious in this....my main idea was to develop an LiveUpdate engine for blackberry, thought there aren't any known virus now my idea was to have the Live Update context so that when there comes one we can develop a fix and provide the application to user along with Live Update process, so that further on user can download the latest Virus Definitions on to hi phone.

This is just like updation of antivirus program nothing else.

If some one knows some information please help me.

Thanks & Regards,
Siva.

The OP has posted other threads asking about known viruses for the BB, then asking about details of the BB OS architecture, and now about the registry. It does sound suspicious.

And you don't need that kind of detailed info to write a program that phones home on a schedule to update itself.

Siva, as mentioned, you can code live update functionality into an application, no? The OS will have an update notification system added to it in the next couple releases. These are all Java applications running together with various dependencies, so there's no registry to be found on the device, to my knowledge. Good luck.

If on the level why not contact RIM?

Default In touch

Hi,

I am in touch with RIM as well wiht the developer support, but still exploring is not a bad point isn't it.

Asper their reply even they say ther eis no regitry concept in BB..... anyway if we have OS notification coming up in fuure releases then there would be no point in going fwd for developing separete applicatin for antivirus and live update.

Anyway please be keep posting your review on this isuue so that i can have as per information as i can get before moving on or taking some decision.

Regards,
Siva charan.
