Any idea how to download it? It says it's free but I can't find it on RIM site.

Telefonica customers in Spain were able to download a copy of this software shortly after it was announced, though it was a limited copy

The word direct from RIM at a meeting I had yesterday is that Telephonica has a 2 month exclusive on Unite because they actually helped RIM design the software. Once that has expired its going to be available for free download.

It's been three months since the OP, when are the two months up?

I think RIM's got some fixin' to do...this IT policy thing should be controlled from the desktop software with alot more control...or just remove it. I mean the whole idea and they way RIM sells this thing is for family and friends to share "stuff" together...what they dont talk about is the man with the software installed has all the control over what those others do. I think that if RIM just gets rid of the IT policy, this probably would be a great piece of software (along with some other tweaks)

just me thinking out loud

I think everyone is missing the main point of this.

For Family:
Parents can control what their kids can and cant do, and can share media/files/calendar/contacts with them
For Business:
The "boss" can control what workers have access to, assign calendar entries to basically dispatch workers, and limit what they can and cannot do on their devices. For now it is working as it was intended.

This is also a very early release of the product, and i havent seen more than a handful of people that are actually supposed to have this, that have posted.

Then they should have had different level of install...one for the boss, one for family and friends, etc. And definitely a way to reverse the whole process assuming that the person that does not want to be part of this whole experiment a way to put they phone back to the way it was...but that is not the case and I think RIM is in serious need to fix some "stuff" in this software...for starters, a utility to completely remove whatever it has changed in the phone to put back to the state it was prior to install (at a minimum)

BES/BPS IT policies and changes cannot be completely reversed. Why would you assume Unite could be? Why would RIM care you illegally downloaded a product, installed it and messed up your phone? To me that falls under user error

Well, it loads the same policies on a device to those who "are supposed" to have the software. I think RIM should somehow warn in the documentation that IT policies are placed on the connected devices. That's an important bit of information.

FYI: All 4.3 and higher OS devices can have the IT policy/firewalls removed using JL_Cmder's "resettofactory" command. This is likely why they finally came out with this feature in javaloader.
