Question Strange "Delete On: Mailbox & Handheld" Behavior

Please Login to Remove!

I'm hoping someone can help my figure out what's going on with my handheld (8310) and desktop synchronization. I'm on my 3rd blackberry (7290, 8700c prior - all in the Cingular AT&T family), and this is the first time I've experienced the below problem.

The "Delete On: Mailbox & Handheld" seems to be broken (synchronization works fine when it comes to marking items read or filing them into various folders).

1. If I delete an unread item on the handheld and sync, the email in the inbox is marked as "read" (but is not removed from my computer's inbox).

2. If I delete a read item on the handheld and sync, the email in the inbox is marked as "read" ( but is not removed from my computer's inbox).

3. If I read an email on the handheld (or mark it "read") and sync, the email is marked "read" on my computer's inbox. If I then delete that read email on my handheld and sync again, it will be deleted from my computer's inbox.

Item 3 above is the only way I can get "Delete On: Mailbox & Handheld" to function 'properly'. It's fine if I'm sitting at my desk, but rather dysfunctional if I'm on the road (and come back to an inbox full of email messages that I tried to delete).

My company does not support wireless sync.
"Synchronize moves and deletes" is set to "Mailbox wins" in the desktop manager
Desktop Manager is 4.2
Handheld is set to "Delete On: Mailbox & Handheld"
I've tried deleting and undeleting the CMIME service book, rebooting, and just about everything else I've read online.

Does anyone have any further ideas to help me solve this problem? It would seem like it could be done because synchronization will remove emails deleted on the handheld from my computer's inbox, but only when they've been previously synch'ed as "read".

Many thanks!
