Default Can't dial '1' for voicemail...

Please Login to Remove!

I upgraded my T-Mobile 7290 OS and everything works fine
EXCEPT
When I press and hold 1 for voicemail it says 'Unknown number'.

If I select 'Call Voicemail' from the menu it works so I know the number is correct.
I can also see the correct number when I choose Options->Voicemail.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Same issue when I upgraded to 4.0 on the Rogers Network, never really did dig deep as to what was the cause but the quick fix I found was to assign my VM# to speed dial (A) 416-555-5555,,0000# same principal hold the letter A to dial my VM.

This thread has an extensive discussion of retrieving voicemail messages. Near the end is my hypothesis for how it works. Hope this helps.

Default Thanks - but....

Adding the extra numbers works fine however I can only take advantage of this feature (adding passwords etc.) when I select 'Call voicemail'. Pressing and holding '1' doesn't work and that's what I'm trying to figure out.

I wonder how this gets assigned to '1'.

Just set your own cell phone number as the mobile phone number for speed dial '1' (or W really), either using [use once] or your own contact record.

Then when you press and hold '1' it will call "Voicemail" and dial your voicemail number.

Default Hey - EGottlieb!! You know, sometimes...

the answer is staring you in the face... (but I just couldn't see it).

Thanks for pointing out '1' is the same slot as 'W'. Either I had too much to drink or I was looking for a complex technical solution (based on OS configuration, etc, etc, etc) and you had the ability to point out the answer to me in one sentence.

All fixed now.

I remain most humbled...

For TMO, dial 123 for voice mail.

That only works if you are on the T-Mobile network. If you roam internationally you need to use the +1 805-MESSAGE or whatever the number is.

All of this still doesn't explain what happened to the original voicemail speed dial entry that was created at setup. I don't recall having an entry for tmo vmail in my address book yet that speed dial existed. How/why did it get removed? Any ideas anyone?
