Default Desktop manager install in a BES setup - 02-24-2008, 02:21 PM

Hi,

Well, I finally earned my moniker and dropped my Treo for an 8310. I couldn't understand why you blackberry fans didn't want a touch screen but I'm happy to say I don't miss it!

So my BB is through work where they have it setup on BES and it syncs properly with all apps (calender, email, tasks, memos). Life is good!

However, they did not provide the desktop mgr software and said they don't officially support it. But they said we could download it for ourselves so long as we "choose the Internet Version because the other version will stop your BB from syncing wirelessly"... Well, I downloaded the latest version and don't see anything called an Internet Version. What I do see at the beginning of the install is a question of whether I use BES or not....is this what they mean by "Internet Version"?

I'm not sure how to answer that question in the installation...I don't want to risk disturbing the setup that's already working with BES.

Since I've got the flashdrive enabled on the BB, I can use that to transfer music and pics....what else do I need the Desktop mgr for anyways?

thanks,
Chuck

PS: I should mention that I've spent the better part of 2 hours reading the FAQ and search results to try to answer most this but haven't foundany explicit answer...

not sure where you bes admin is coming from on this on

you can install desktop mgr choose bes option not the internet option

it will not allow you to screw those things managed by the bes

there really isnt anything you can do with dm that isnt already being handled by the bes or that cant be done ota

Default any change for 2 computers - 02-24-2008, 06:12 PM

Any impact if I'm looking to put the desktop managers on both my work and personal computers? I guess I choose "BES" during the install for both and this tells the DM not to override the sync-ing of my device then...?

Does choosing BES preclude me setting up other accounts (GMAIL via POP) using BIS?

Sorry, I'm all questions at this point. However I do plan to do a good review of Treos vs Curves as I learn more about my device (Since I dug deep to find anything in the past).
