Red face How can I Activate a large nbr of BB without touching the device - 02-25-2008, 12:33 PM

I have to activate 300+ BB in one day. Management does not want the end users to have to go through the wireless activation steps of entering their E-mail addresses and passwords... Is there a way I can load the e-mail accounts, passwords, and BB #'s into the enterprise server and have the server initiate the activation?

Enterprise Activation is necessary. No way to NOT do it.

Do you have the BlackBerry devices with you?
You can initiate the Enterprise Activation in any number of ways.

There's no way to activate them all in one shot. It's going to be one, or a few, at a time.

"Management does not want the end users to have to go through the wireless activation steps of entering their E-mail addresses and passwords"
That's just silly. You might want to address this, as it's going to make your life a living hell in the future.

So then just do the Enterprise Activation for the user.
Doing 300 in one day is going to be rough... for you, and the BES.
You can't do them in bulk though. It's basically going to be one at a time.

Yes I have the 300 devices onsite. I keep thinking that there should be a way for the BB Enterprise server to send the first e-mail to the device to initiate the activation.

~ Add users to BES.
~ Attach USB cable to BES.
~ Connect BlackBerry device to USB Cable.
~ Right-click user in BES manager and choose 'Assign Device'

That's about as quick as it's going to get.

Your other option, of course, is to initiate each EA from the device by entering the email address and password for each one.

I've had a similar situation where i had to deploy a large number of BB's in one day, and i just simply just had to do it the old fashion way, OTA or Injection. No way around it. I think RIM was thinking of doing some sort of self activation on BES 5.0, but that's just a rumor anyways.

Either way, yes, there isn't a way around it to try to do 300+ in one shot.
