Default Desktop Redirector Crashing! - 07-25-2005, 11:45 AM

Hi There,

Firslt let me say hi! This is my first post after buying a blackberry not 3hrs ago!

So I just got back and installed the software Desktop manager 4.0, however when i got to open the redirector it crashes straight away is this a known issue or is it just em :( ???

But then reading on further I'm not sure I can use it anyways as I'm using Outlook Pro 2003 on a XP machine??? Can I use this to forward email to my device?

Thanks so much for any help,

Cheers

Tim

Desktop Redirector is only certified to work if you have an Exchange server as your e-mail server. If you are using a POP3 e-mail account, Desktop Redirector is certain to fail.

If you are trying to redirect POP3 e-mail, check out the BlackBerry Web Client for your carrier.

Okay - thanks for your feedback...I guess that I have to use that option then and close down outlook etc before i leave the office so the desktop doesn't pick them up first.

thanks for taking hte time to reply.

Tim.

Hmmm outlook picks up my mail every 1min so I don't think BWC is ever going to catch anything??? Do you know how often BWC logs into a POP3 acct to check for new mail?

Thanks

Tim

OKay - thanks to info I found on this forum I found the fix!

If anyone else runs into this issue uninstall the desktop manager and search for scanpst.exe on your system and run that. Then reinstall software and hey presto....all works great. Redirector appears to be working fine with pop3.... Wayhey!

Ok it might work with your pop3 for a while but when it fails it can fail badly and you my have to have your ISP recreate your mailbox sounds a little extreme. Redirector is not ment to work with pop becuase redirector needs to write blackberry info to the exchance users mailbox

but good luck, If it stops working dont call your carrier and dont call RIM

If you're leaving Outlook on 24/7, and are receiving mail via POP rather than IMAP, why not use an Outlook rule to forward incoming mail to your BB? Faster than BWC, and more reliable than Redirector sans Exchange.
