Default RALP support for iDEN Blackberry (7520) ? - 04-21-2008, 04:31 PM

I am a new user, and apologize if this is the wrong forum to post this question... please redirect me if so !

This is an iDEN-specific posting.

I would like to know if Motorola's RALP (Radio Application Layer Protocol) is supported on the iDEN Blackberry devices (e.g. 7520). RALP is a protocol that allows another tool to interface with the device for the purpose of receiving signal quality information (signal strength and other metrics related to the radio signal). It is typically part of the package for iDEN handsets, and (probably) is built into the the chipset used by the iDEN Blackberry to operate the radio link.

Our company makes hardware and software for test equipment which utilizes cellular handsets as the radio receivers/transmitters. We support a number of Motorola iDEN handsets via the RALP protocol, and would like to support the Blackberry 7520 as well, but I can find no mention of RALP in any forum discussion of communicating with the iDEN Blackberry devices. It may be that RALP is part of the chipset, but access is not allowed by RIM in their Blackberry operating system, but I would like to find this out for sure.

Hope this makes sense. Any leads are welcome !

Thanks in advance,
Jim Morgan
