Default Newbie Question about Email Filters - 06-02-2008, 01:10 PM

Hi All,

I am new to blackberry and just purchased an 8310.

I basically just want it to keep up with my work emails and I want to setup some simple filters like only redirect to device if I am in the To: line. Do not forward along messages marked with low importance, etc.

Anyway, my company does not subscribe to the enterprise server, so basically the way things are set up is that my IT guy has set up my account to forward email to my blackberry from my work account.

With this current setup, it appears that not of the filters I set up in the desktop manager are working and I am receiving all the email that goes to my outlook.

Do these filters not work for my current setup?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance

It might be easier if we knew a bit more about your setup at work. Do you know, for example, if your work email is on an Exchange Server, or is it a POP account that is hosted by an outside ISP? If it is an exchange server, is Outlook Web Access enabled? When you are away from the office, is there a web page that you can log into to get your email and respond?

You might want to take a look at the FAQ section, and look for their discussion of receiving mail via BIS (Blackberry Internet Service). If you do this you will be able to set up some filters at your carrier's web site that will ensure that you only get the emails that you want to receive.

Good luck.

Here is the link to the FAQ section that is most relevant for you:
