Default CompanionLink Pro not compatible with DTM 4.5 - 06-29-2008, 03:41 AM

Just wondering if anyone else has come across this. I use companionlink pro 3.0 to my synchronizing because I have multiple devices that I use. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work anymore since upgrading to DTM 4.5. Has anyone else encountered this? I have already submitted a trouble ticket with CompanionLink people but it would be nice if others have come across this so that I may tell them that I'm not the only one affected. Thanks.

Eric

Are there any specific things i need to do in order to update to 4.5, or just follow along with the installer?

Just install it over the top of any older version, if you have one. Yes, just folow the installer instructions.

Look in the 8300 Forum and you'll see stickys at the top that say "Attention:". All the latest OS downloads are there. Follow the instructions in the thread for your device. I'd post a link but I'm on the wap site and don't have easy access to the link. Good luck!

* File name: BlackBerry Device Manager_ENG_4.5_13.msi
* File size: 15.5 MB
* Date posted: 20-June-07

I'm posting from the wap site so I can't see what device you have. Since you say you have OS 4.3 on your device I'll assume you have an 8330. there is no OS 4.5 released for the 8330. I would stick with what you have.

OH ok, i guess there hasnt been a official release for the 8330 for the 4.5 but i have seen some members with OS 4.5, i guess they are using a beta version or an unofficial version. i think it would be safer for me to wait for the official release, it cant be that long.

I too have loaded DM 4.5 and am now having trouble with Roxio functioning properly. Is there a fix for this or is there some expectation of a new release by RIM?

I have a Curve 8310 from AT&T on 4.5.0.46 with Desktop Manager 4.5. The new OS for the Curve seems to be working great. I love the new Video capabilities and Browser features.
I have now attempted to set-up the sync for my device to Outlook in DM.
1. The Intellisync setup box appears with the 4 options:
Calendar, MemoPad, Address Book, & Tasks.
I am able to choose the option and the available desktop applications appear (Outlook express, Novell Groupside, ACt, Outlook, Lotus, etc.) and I choose Microsoft Outlook --> then I choose 2-way sync --> then I am given the Outlook User profiles to choose (I have 2 options: Outlook & msnsqm - no idea what this is) --> I choose Outlook --> I get a congratulation! Page --> I click "Finish" and get an error "Cannot find system in table file." --> click ok and goes back to the Intellisync first screen. I cannot even try to choose the msnsqm option - it won't work.

Any ideas of how to fix this? I was on AT&T std DM version and Curve version last week, but upgraded everything last night with great hopes.

Thanks

I found this resolution on the blackberry support site:

Cannot find table in system file displays when configuring Synchronization settings
Doc ID : KB15278
Last Modified : 2008-04-23
Document Type : Support

Print this page

Environment

* BlackBerry® Desktop Manager 4.3
* Microsoft® Outlook®

Problem

When following these steps to set up Synchronization using BlackBerry Desktop Manager:

1. Select Synchronize > Configure Synch.
2. Select the application you want to synchronize and click Setup.
3. Select Microsoft Outlook as the application and click Next.
4. Select Two way sync and click Next.
5. Select Default Outlook Profile and click Next.
6. Click on the Finish button.

Clicking on the Finish button in step 6 resulted in the following error:

Cannot find table in system file

Cause

The error occurred after upgrading from BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.2.2 to version 4.3. The upgrade failed to remove the Connectors folder in C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Connectors. As a result, the old Microsoft Outlook desktop applications are registered with BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.3.

Resolution

If the Connectors folder is still present in C\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Connectors\MS Outlook Connector, follow these steps:

1. Unregister the old Microsoft Outlook connector ilxolkCompanion.fil.
1. Open the command prompt.
2. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Connectors\MS Outlook Connector.
3. Type in the command regsvr32 -u ilxolkCompanion.fil.
4. In Desktop Manager, Microsoft Outlook will no longer be listed as an available desktop application.
2. Register the most current Microsoft Outlook connector.
1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\IS71 Connectors\MS Outlook Connector.
2. Type in the command regsvr32 msoutlookconnector.fil.
3. In Desktop Manager, Microsoft Outlook will now be registered as an available desktop application.

Once these steps have been completed, configure synchronization again.

I installed DM4.5 and everything is working great, except when I go to add/remove an application or update an application it hangs for ever , > 10 minutes at "Checking for device application updates". How do I stop this ? I cant ever seem to actually get to the point of adding/removing software.

Using BB 8830

i'm having the same problem now. i downloaded a new program to my desktop and tried to install and cant get past this either. worked fine until i downloaded new software. it's happening on my laptop and desktop now. maybe it has something to do with connecting to the internet? is there a way to stop the dm from checking for updates?

I am running DM 4.5 and cant see any of the internal rim apps on my 8100. I can only the ones I have installed. I want to load PIN messaging and BB maps again and it wont let me. I have searched several times with no solution. Anyone know how to fix this problem?

Did you delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader?

Care to give us anything more to go on to try and help you? Have you checked for the vendor.xml file again?

These are the steps.

1. Install Desktop Manager. (Looks like you've done that.)
2. Install OS to the PC in addition to DM. (Make sure the OS is still installed to the PC. If it's not, install it again. You can check in Desktop Manager by going to Help >About >Device Software Tab. It should list the OS 4.5.0.37 for the 8100. If it doesn't you'll need to install it.)
3. AFTER installing both 1 & 2, delete vendor.xml file from location mentioned above.
4. Plug in BB, open DM and run Application Loader. It should recognize the files on your BB.

Thanks for the help John. I have tried the steps above and DM 4.5 will not show any of the RIM files on my 8100. I reinstalled DM 4.3 and it works fine. I am using OS 4.5.0.46

I'm in the Philippines. I tried to download that file for about fifteen (15) times but it is not successful. Today I taught it will finish the download process but it downloaded only 175 Mb.

Where can I download it except on the main BB ftp/http server?

Thanks.

Outlook 2007 Fails to Open as an application, after running DM Sync.
(DM is at 4.2, on XP Pro SP2).
It appears that DM is leaving two Outlook Processes running when Sycn is finished. These prevent starting Outlook as an application. (Manually "Ending" each of the running processes makes all OK.)
Is this fix know to be in a DM release later than 4.2?
Or: is it an Outlook problem?

Outlook has had similar problems for several years. For whatever reason, MS decided to let Outlook spawn multiple instances of itself, rather than forcing new requests to simply make use of an existing instance if already running. This becomes a problem when more than one instance is attempting to obtain exclusive control over a resource (such as your PST file). Net result is that more than one instance of Outlook showing in Task Manager often equates to frozen/unresponsive Outlook.

DM apparently makes calls to one or more Outlook COM objects to support syncing, and apparently this winds up invoking/loading Outlook in memory. Not sure under what circumstances this will happen, but it seems that those instances don't "go away" as quickly or cleanly as they should - hence your problem. It's possible that later versions of DM may be able to release the reference to the COM object more cleanly - maybe this will resolve the problem. But I DO know that Outlook has displayed this kind of behavior pretty consistently for several years, through several versions.

I downloaded version 6 bundle 8 (4.6.0 b0008) last week and was running it until last night, when I switched over to this "official release". Sorry - I honestly don't remember *where* I found it, so I couldn't point people there even if I wanted to (and I don't want to upload / proliferate it).

Didn't have any noticeable problems in the 4.6 beta, and quite honestly didn't see anything different in 4.6 than I'm seeing in 4.5 / 16. Anyone aware of any differences between these two versions? (aside from the number!)

- Jon
