Default Desktop Manager always wants to Downgrade Aplns - 06-26-2008, 11:14 AM

I have this problem on DM 4.5 (which I had to be officially released since I obtained it from RIM's regular website). However, it was also a problem for me with DM 4.2. With DM 4.2 though, it would show that it wanted to downgrade certain aps but never did it. With DM 4.5, it actually does downgrade any aps which were upgraded using the BB's browser.

Thx to all for the great advice!

My system is similar 8310 w/ OS 4.5.0.37 on AT&T and DM 4.5. I upgraded Docs to Go yesterday. I tried to remove Empower Pro today but did not do so because it also wanted to downgrade Docs to Go and remove Sheets to Go.

Had the exact same situation but did want to add another application and had no choice but to let it downgrade a couple.

For anyone who is having the same problem, BerryReview posted a solution to prevent the automatic downgrade of Docs to Go. That post is at the following link... » FAQ: Desktop Manager Downgrading Documents To Go? | BerryReview.com

The solution for Empower came from Empower tech support and follows:

"This would occur you mix desktop and OTA installs on the same device.

The simplest solution would be delete the application using the desktop manger. This is a two step process.
First uninstall the application by unchecking the checkbox in the desktop manger and proceeding to complete the uninstall.
Then connect the desktop manager again, select the application and click on the delete button. This way, the application would be deleted from the application list of the desktop manager.

Then install the product OTA."

Thx to all for the great advice!
