Default Windows Live Messenger - 06-27-2008, 04:30 AM

I updated my device to 4.5 (Pearl 8120) in order to use Windows Live Messenger, but I can't install it.

I've tried both through the webpage on my PC and on the device browser no joy.

Any ideas?

Well, I'm not sure how exacting the specs are but take a look -
BlackBerry - BlackBerry | Wireless Handheld Devices, Software & Services from Research In Motion (RIM)

It doesn't mention 02 as a carrier and it says if you are on a BES your admin has to specifically allow messenger functionality.....

hmmm ok...
Interesting...
I'm a BIS device user, so no BES restrictions to worry about.

Just whether I can
a) Use a 8120
b) use o2

Did you resend your service books? The upgraded BIS is meant to bring windows live services to blackberry devices with the 4.5 OS installed.

Are you installing the application from mobile.blackberry.com?

It should be listed in your device os through app loader. Make sure you have it checked in the box to install.

I have tried sending the Service Books again, no change.
I am now going to look at the app loader on DM (I have DM4.5 as well).

No option in App Loader for Live Messenger (just BB Messenger).

Tried going to www.blackberry.com/livemessenger through the device browser

I have installed it, but when trying to run it says I do not have the right servicebooks

You may have to think about running it via an IM application such as jivetalk. This is not free but there is a free trial available. This is actually what most msn messenger users use.

This is the link to Blackberry.com's Windows Live Messenger.

1st, I think it depends on your service provider (service book issue), and then it might not work with OS4.5 according to some threads that I've been reading. Good Luck.

Here are the steps for installing MSN Messenger.

Installing MSN Messenger from PC using Black Berry Desktop Manger
  1. Connect your BB Smart phone to computer(Use provided USB Cable)
  2. Open Internet Explorer
  3. type following URL address
  4. blackberry.com/devicesoftware/entry.do?code=wlm20
  5. Accept their agreement and continue
  6. Enter your pass code, if prompted
It's that easy.

I installed on my Curve 8330.
