Can the BB desktop manager load system software into the device simulator? -

Hi,
does anyone know if it is possible to load system software into the BB device simulator with the application loader part of the BB desktop manager software? We would like to show this to a larger audience using a laptop running the simulator.
The BB desktop manager allows for PIM data synchronisation using IntelliSync and backup/restore, but when we try to start the application loader, we don not succeed to get a connection to the device simulator. Is this on purpose?
