Default Wiping OS through Desktop Manager

Please Login to Remove!

Can someone clarify something for me please.
With the 7230\7290 and other models, it was possible to completely wipe the OS by putting the password in wrong 10 times using desktop manager (as opposed to 10 times on the device which would just wipe but leave the os on). I have just tried to do this on a pearl and it leaves the OS on. Is there a way to wipe pearls and newer models using desktop manager or would i have to use JL_Cmder? What models can I wipe OS using desktop manager?

Thanks
