Default Desktop Manager ver. 4.7 SLOW!!!! - 12-06-2008, 12:57 PM

OMG!!!!!!!!

Is everone else having this is problem? I recently updated from a previous version, I think 4.2 or so to the new 4.7. When I sync'd my BB to my PC in the previous version, the sync would take all of 30 seconds or so. Now, with this updated ver. 4.7 it takes up to about 5-10 min to sync.

If there is a fix for this, like a setting or something, please let me know. I think I might have to go back to the previous version soon....

Everyone passed 4.2 is slow, but due to a recent security issue, it's good to stay with what you have.

I've never seen an upgrade degrade functionality as much as this one did. The folks at RIM owe their users an apology. There's no need for the system to recheck each item (calendar, address book) over and over and over again.

Recently installed 4.7! WOOOO! Extrememly slow. Feeling confident about RIMM, went ahead and upgraded my phone firmware. 4.7 syncs are extremely slow with only 800 contacts. Also had to uninstall and download media manager version so I could copy photos to my computer! A 200+ mb file!

Followed advise from other guys in this thred, I uninstalled 4.7 (with media manager??), then dowonladed and installed old version 4.3. So far 4.3 with media manager seems to work fine, and fortunately my phone still works after having to step back several versions of desktop manager.

I like really RIMM, but they need to fire the guy who wrote the recent versions of Desktop Manager and re-hire the guy who wrote 4.3.

Not quite true! I had 4.3 and it was very quick. 45s syncs. I just "upgraded" to 4.7 and OMG it is sooooooooo sloooooooooooooooow with 1350 contacts it took about 3-4 minutes. I just googled about it and found this post. I think I will "downgrade" back to my included CD with 4.3 or find 5.0 if its to be had on the net. Very disappointing DM upgrade after a very satified device OS upgrade from 4.3 to 4.5. Looks like the smart ones at RIM write the device code, not the PC interface code.

If I remember correctly, even the quick 4.3 software would double-verify everything. It just happened fast and you didn't notice it. I think its in the RIM security protocol to do this for safety and security. But since the 4.7 is so slow, all eyes are on it, and you just noticed this.

How many item is each PIM database syncing? (Calendar/Contact/Tasks/Memos)

I had an employee who had to sync about 6000 Calendar entries, that sync took about 10+ minutes running DM 4.5 (and the dude had calendar attachments so the sync kept failing :( oo it was a tedious day....

Maybe running a ScanPST.exe on the PST file the DM is syncing with will speed up the process.

For the first time I feel the future might hold something different for me. It's possible I'm fooling myself but I'm willing to take the risk.

Exclamation Gotta love this-DM 4.3 IS FASTER OVER A 3MB/S BLUETOOTH THAN 4.7 OVER USB!!!!!!!!!!! - 04-10-2009, 08:02 PM

So I'm back with 4.3 DM and much happier. At lunch I stopped and picked up a bluetooth USB dongle for my desktop, and then proceeded to configure DM 4.3 to wirelessly sync with my berry. After configuring the connection and exchanging a couple pass keys, its all working. And guess what............... DM 4.3 IS FASTER OVER A 3MB/S BLUETOOTH THAN 4.7 OVER USB!!!!!!!!!!! RIM-YOU SHOULD BE EMBARRASSED. WHAT A JOKE!!!!!!!

5.0 is rumored out or out shortly.

Update: I now have it sucessfully configured as a tethered modem without having to use Tetherberry. On Sprint EDGE I am getting 0.31Mbs or 310Kbs (same thing.) Still looking for a BLUETOOTH solution to mount the media card as removeable storage device (ie: drive letter on PC) but I'm stuck on this one. Help me please. I've exceeded my available apptitude and need a GURU.

I just read up on that security issue and there is a link to a patch I installed for Roxio that fixes the security issue and still allows me to stay with the much much faster sync DM 4.3 that came with my phone CD.

Here it is
http://softwareupdates.roxio.com/isum/security/security_update.exe
Cheers!

Is anyone successfully using DM 5.0? Does it sync faster? Is it safe? Where'd you get it?

It's a beta, try at your own risk.

Everyone will most likely have different exp. with it depending on OS/PIN Sync client.
