Default 8100 issue

Please Login to Remove!

Hello everyone,

I've been browsing the internet for the last month in search for a solution to my problem. I'll explain in detail what I have and what I've done so far so that it is as clear as I can spell it:

I got a BlackBerry 8100 Pearl for christmas. The gadget is branded TIM (italy) but it is not locked (it works with orange and cosmote, i'm from Romania).

What I want from this gadget is to use a browser (opera mini), one rss reader and y!m or gtalk. I don't need the data plan for e-mail push and other stuff.

APN is set as it should be, all settings (those I can modify) are ok, but it doesn't work. All I can access is Orange World (wap, and this with the bb browser) and no other internet activity works.

I've downgraded it to 4.2, then reinstalled 4.5 for my carrier (orange romania), still same problem. Nothing works but BB browser on orange world.

What else can I try? Can it be that the phone is partially locked on TIM? both orange and cosmote sim cards work, only the internet doesn't work.

On orange I have a prepaid sim, and on cosmote I have a plan (no BB data plan, but the net works on the other phone, so it's a BB thing...)

Any suggestion is welcome

You might want to get a BlackBerry (BIS) Data plan. Since BlackBerries are different.

if i'd need a data plan i'd make one. but i really don't need it so i don't want to pay for something i don't need. i really like the berry and i want to use it, but i don't need e-mail push. all i need is what any other smartphone can. GPRS/EDGE. the weird fact is that even if i have activated the internet plan, it doesn't work. the only page it loads is the Orange World page, and this is wap. any other wap page does not work. isn't it a bit weird?

To the best of my knowledge, the data plans are pretty much all or nothing: e-mail push, internet access, MMS, etc. I don't think you can pick and choose segemnts of them. And you wiill need one for internet access.

Yep, I have not heard of a carrier letting you choose what services you want from the internet. You get a data plan, you get all the data that you want to you BlackBerry.

i didn't choose anything, and i don't wanna choose something i don't need. i don't know what the issue is that's why i'm posting here. i find it very weird that one wap page works and other pages don't. wap or web.

"How to use BlackBerry on Generic Data Plan - BlackBerryFAQ" <- look for this here on the forums (i'm not allowed to post links yet)

i don't want to repeat myself, i don't need e-mail push and other blackberry server services. i just need to use the berry like any other smartphone that browses the net. if i'll need email push in the future then i'm gonna make a BB data plan. but until then i really don't need to give money for something i don't need.

I have tried going to my Service Provider to access a data plan and they tell me that the handset is unlocked as all 5 menus show disabled but that it's data locked so I can't activate my bb services. Anybody have a clue about what to do?
