Default Desktop Manager and Windows 7 - 01-11-2009, 02:41 PM

Anyone trying out Windows 7 and installing DM on it yet?

I installed the 7000 build last week to a laptop, but had problems with DM talking to an attached Blackberry. Once the phone rebooted a minute after connecting it to the USB cable, another time the DM just sat there in a "not responding" state. It is seeing the phone initially, as the PIN number is coming up in the DM window.

No problems like that so far.

Currently got my Pearl connected, works fine for teathering and transfering data via my computer.

Got DM 4.7 installed and all seems ok for the moment.

I'll give it another try this week.

Did you do anything special, like select "Run as Administrator..." when you ran the DM installer?

Found out it's my phone, a 8700g. Not sure if it's a hardware problem or the fact I'm running a OS that wasn't fully implemented for it ;)

I plug it in, the USB recognizes the phone, then drops it seconds later. No charging icon, anything the DM was doing just stops.

Default they didn't get you right.... - 01-25-2009, 10:59 AM

what yu are trying is say is you install DM 4.7 to a system with OS of "WINDOWS 7 build 7000"

the problem is the OS and not DM...

i also encounter the same thing,,,,

seem like Windows 7 doesn't fully support DM 4.7 yet...

will try 4.6 and lower....

Interesting, I am running Windows 7 with DM 4.7 syncing to a 8900 and when I start the sync I get an intellisync error...... was going to roll back to Vista, unless someone has a better idea?

Tried running it in compatability mode for Vista with Administrator selected...

Exclamation Windows 7 DM7 issue with OS upgrade - 04-18-2009, 04:38 PM

I have been beta testing W7 for a month or so. I installed DM4.7 and used it with no issues for normal backup and media syncing. The issue that I have come across is trying to upgrade or even change the OS options. The software hangs on waiting for device to initialize. This has happened to me on two different computers. Anyone else come across this? I am glad I have one old machine running XP to save me.

Default Unable to install DesktopMgr.exe in Windows 7200 - 06-15-2009, 07:48 PM

I have tried both 8100M_PBr4[1].2.1_rel148_PL2.3.0.77_A4.2.1.94_Rogers.exe and 8100M_PBr4.5.0_rel139_PL2.7.0.85_A4.5.0.102_Rogers .exe which both seem ask the usual questions and finish successfully but do not show up in the Start menu or Programs search. Not surprising since I cannot find "C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\DesktopMgr.exe" either.

Despite getting the 'Insufficient charge ...' message when connecting via USB, the drivers seems to be loading OK and I can see my Pearl as a mass storage device.

As for Bluetooth, forget it. There are too many tales of woe if you search Windows 7 bluetooth so I will be reverting back to XP soon.

Those two files are OS files for you BB and NOT desktop manager.

Download Desktop manager from main BB wesbite.

Default synching crash - 07-03-2009, 04:53 PM

i had the same problem with 4.7 on win 7 RC.

Solution is to delete all calendar entries on the berry, then re-sync and it works well.

If you have a Storm, the problem only exists for Windows 7 and the Storm. When installing the DM don't use the BES email settings that come with it. Just use the DM and the normal email settings for personal email. I solved the problem by uninstalling the whole thing and reinstalling. Also the problem has something to do with the updater. SO uninstall everything.

Default Win 7 64bit / Curve 8330 USB issues - 10-28-2009, 10:49 AM

Hi,
I see that this thread has been inactive of late, but it seems to be the right place for my issue.

I have installed 64bit Windows 7 Ultimate on my HP Laptop, and various versions of the Blackberry Desktop Manager (4.6 - 5.0.1).

When I launch BDM (5.0.1), it comes up with the message "Before you begin, verify that your current BlackBerry device is connected to your computer." There are no buttons in the dialog box, nor an X to close it. I have plugged 2 working Blackberries in, using 3 different RIM supplied cables, each time I hear the device connection sound (from windows) and the 1st time for each blackberry (8330 and 8310) a blackberry driver is installed. But the message does not go away and BDM never recognizes the device. In earlier versions of BDM, there was an ok button to clear the message, but they did not see the devices either.

I have no exclamation points in my device manager, and have done clean installs of several versions of the BDM. Both blackberries also connect successfully to another computer, Windows Vista Business 32bit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Barry

I thought I had tried that before, but just tried it again to no avail. The dialog box comes up and stays up as soon as BDM loads.

For the life of me i cant get bluetooth to work after upgrading to windows 7. I downloaded the new drivers for bluetooth from broadcom. I downloaded the update for DM. Desk manager will connect to my phone. But it craps out as soon as I go to sync. it gives an error of "connector specific error"

Default Note for anyone having problem with DM stating "Before you begin, verify that your.." - 11-11-2009, 05:49 PM

For anyone having the issue with Desktop Manager stating "Before you begin, verify that your current BlackBerry device is connected to your computer", this may resolve your problem (it worked for me even with Bluetooth):

1) Make sure no "Desktop Manager" components are running. You may need to kill BbDevMgr.exe, RIMDeviceManager.exe, and DesktopMgr.exe using Task Manager

2) Run regedit.exe

3) Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Manager

4) Create a new 32bit dword reg value named "DeviceConnection" and set the value to 1

5) Launch Desktop Manager

For me this was a new install in a VM I created to test this with. I noticed that there was no value named "DeviceConnection" where one does exist on a machine of mine that is working. Once I did this, then DM would at least start up and not show that stupid message screen where it then does not allow you to select the device. It appears that the programmers at RIM need to go back to school and learn how to test application updates and use FRESH computer images for their testing.

Default Win 7 64bit / Curve 8330 USB issues revisited - 11-11-2009, 07:07 PM

I was able to get past the "Before you begin, verify that your current BlackBerry device is connected to your computer" by following the instructions from the post by SpawnMOD, however DM 5.0.1 still won't see either of my Blackberry Curves. The machine still sees them attach, loads the Blackberry device driver and makes the connect sound, but DM never sees the device.

Even on my 32bit Vista machine where DM works, it actually does fail to sync my exchange calendar, so i am using DM, with a special outlook profile, to sync contacts and notes, and Google Calendar to sync my calendar. Can it get any more complicated. And all of this because Verizon Wireless has the nerve to charge an extra $15/month to allow enterprise activation so I can use BPS!!!

I have similar problems. I have a Tour.
I had a similar problem with a device that calibrates color for use with Photoshop. A friend suggested trying to use the compatibility option. It worked with the calibration program.
It has not worked with the 5.01. I'm going to drop back to the 4.xx
series and see if that works. I got Bluetooth to work but that doesn't give me backup or calendar.
