We have a Windows 2003 Environment running Exchange 2003. We are trying to deploy a BES 4.0 server. I am reading through the BES Installation guide and its a bit confusing. Under one of the requirements form runnign in a MS Windows 2003 Environment they state the following:

"Microsoft Exchange 2003 messaging and collaboration server environment(on a computer without Microsoft Exchange installed)"

Now thats bit confusing to me because when I run 'setup' from the Exchange CD the tree that is given requires that you select Exchange in order to install the Message and Collabortation services. Do I just do a minimal install of Exchange 2003 on the BES 4 server so I can install the Exchange Messaging and Collaboration services? This also requires IIS, SMTP and NNTP to be installed is that correct?

Do a Custom for the top option. Do an Install for the 2nd option (System Manager).

Yes, you need IIS Snap-In, Common Files, SMTP and NNTP for ESM. once done, you can disable the SMTP and NNTP services.
