upgrade problems -
04-06-2006, 07:41 PM
I have just upgraded my desktop manager to 4.0.1.12, but i cannot update my blackberry to v4.0.2.49, if I run the application wizaard i get the greyed out text
no system software was found on your handheld, contact your system administrator or service provider for information on obtaining handheld software. there is obviously software on the handheld or it would not work, I would get a 507 error or suchlike if none was present!, intellysync works, handheld works, it just won't install the upgrade, most frustrating, as I wouldn't mind yahoo messenger which I believe is part of the upgrade!
about - installed handheld software in desktop manager says v4.0.2.49 (Platform 1.8.0.142) is installed, about on my handheld itself, says v4.0.0.215 (Platform 18.0.127) is installed this is an earlier version.
anyone got any ideas?

Did you delete vendor.xml yet? Once you do this, the upgrade should now be recognized.
This step is required if you got software from another carrier. Or even from the same carrier but of another country (T-Mobile UK versus T-Mobile USA).

Am I missing something??
The newest version of the OS I see for my Cingular 8700c is the same version that came loaded with my BB.
Am I looking in the wrong place? I am following the link to the blackberry page, but its the same version from Nov '05.

If you click the Cingular link and that's all they have then... Well that's all they have.
Otherwise load another vendor's OS on there. Read the FAQ though, don't make a post asking how to do it, we'll just have to hurt you.

OK, so I haven't made more than 10 posts here, so can't post the URL directly, but if you go to Google and in the search par put this in the search bar:
"Software Download for" site:www[dot]blackberry[dot]com
you'll turn up all software downloads at www[dot]blackberry[dot]com which contains all provider software (unless the provider hosts the files on their own site like Verizon), as well as downloads for SDKs, emulators, etc.
NOTE: replace [dot] with .

For some very strange reason, I can't download the verizon handheld update. Is anybody else having this problem??? It could possibly be a server problem at the school where I work, sometimes they block sites that shouldn't be... if so, would anybody be willing to host it temporarily so that I may download it? I just wiped my blackberry and desperately need it working again ASAP...
Thanks a lot.

I got a Blackberry 6280 (AT&T) from an auction on Ebay. I have it unlocked to use on Cingular. I went to do some upgrades and ended up with a JVM 102 error.
I've since wiped the unit, and have the wonderful 507 error now. I've downloaded and am running version 4.1.1.9 of the desktop manager software and have downloaded and installed (on the desktop) the 4.0.2.56 OS software for Cingular.
I've also deleted Vendor.xml, but the application loader still says No system software was found for your device.
Now I can go in and manually add everything under f:\program files\common files\RIM\Shared\Loader Files\6320_6280-v4.0.2.56_P1.6.1.53 but when I try that, I get "The application "Blackberry 4.0.2. core applications" cannot be loaded because some required files are unavailable."
Before I had the JVM error, I had OS version 3.6.something from 2003.
Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

I have looked all over 2 boards (this one and another one) and tmobile's website for the OS upgrade for a 7105t but I've only been able to find the link to 4.0. Can someone please post the link to that upgrade? Thanks.

t-mo has not yet released an official 4.1 upgrade. everyone here, including myself, has used the Hong Kong CSL file.
using the link to the HKCSL in the first thread, select the 7100g file to download and install.

7290 not working with all new 4.1 72xx theme -
04-25-2006, 01:55 PM
hey there, I upgraded my OS to 4.1 and was giddy to apply some new themes. A couple work great but others are doggin it on the BB and not working that great. I have a 7290 from rogers and it as 32mb or ram.
Any suggestions on what i can do to make all themes run better?
I also did the update to a 7250 that doesn't have this problem...so I am confused.
Thx !!!

As my original post says, I did that.
I have no Vendor.xml file, the desktop software is the latest 4.0.whatever version, the Blackberry is a 6280, the OS software I'm trying to load is 4.0.whatever (latest), and the desktop software doesn't recognize that I have the OS software installed, saying that there's nothing to install.

I wiped the desktop software, cleared it from the registry and reinstalled to see if that'd make a difference. No Vendor.xml file, as I've deleted it. I still get "No System Software was found for your device. Contact your system administrator for information on obtaining device system software."
My steps were:
Install Blackberry Desktop softare.
Install Blackberry 4.0 OS.
Run Desktop software.
Plug in Blackberry.
Hit apploader.
Get greyed out text.

I was told the Alltel had the latest firmware for the 7130E, something like .292...But from what I heard from alltel, they will not be releasing their first firmware update for about another 3 weeks. So, am I correct to assume that the Verizon .268 firmware is the latest? or am I missing another one?
thanks...

Downgrade 7290? -
04-30-2006, 05:42 AM
I have a 7290 and I recently upgraded it to v4.1, however i want to downgrade it now after finding out that I am not able to use the name function in the phone. I find the downgrading to be sorta confusing though. What I dont understand is the exact process by which the downgrade works. Do I uninstall the BB OS from the PC and then just plug it in and follow the instructions? If you could please help me.

I loaded the 4.1 update no problem on my 7105t. Problem now is that I can't get my browser, mail, or IM services to work. Any ideas?

1. Make sure you've turned the wireless off, and you've got a good signal. Depending on the device, the signal should read GPRS, or EDGE unless it's a 7130 which runs on EVDO and I don't think displays how it's connected.
2. Go to Options or Settings or Tools (varies by device and carrier - may also be under Advanced Options) and find Host Routing Table. Click the wheel and select Register Now. Wait for a return email with the subject Registration that says "Your device has been registered with the wireless network."
3. On your computer, go to your provider's BIS site. For Cingular it's:
https://webclient.blackberry.net/Web...ite=mycingular
It should have someplace to send your Internet email and browser service books. On the Cingular site, they are buttons under Profile.
If all that doesn't do it, see the the thread How to Configure Full Internet Access On BlackBerry

I was mistaken. IM shows up on my screen and I can loginto my messenger service, but the browser and e-mail buttons are not showing up on my screen. Again, I have loaded th 4.1 update (I'm with T-Mobile, so it's not from them, I used the HK Update).
Edit: I downloaded the Minuet trial and it works on my device. So the wireless service is working, it just won't activate the browser/mail services.

Slowly solving my own problems...
IM services are up and I've re-registered my e-mail service and that has come back to my screen. THe only thing missing is my browser and "download fun"...frankly...I can live without both of those since I'll be ustilizing a 3rd party browser. I'll really miss "download fun" though...I may cry later...
Any thoughts on the browser? It's all about principle now...
