The only thing that would be affected if the UK version did not have French language support. APNs and things are unaffected.

I ran a T-Mobile OS on my Cingular 7290 with no problems. I've also ran Hong Kong CSL and others with no problems.

The best downloads pages I can find for Telecom Italia was by modifying the known Telecom Italia download URL's so I view the directories containing all released 7230 and 7290 files. Looks like 4.x has not yet been released by Telecom Italia for 7230, but it has been released for the 7290.
Dear Mark,
I have searched the forum to find the known Telecom Italia download URL, but to no avail. I am looking for a possible upgrade of the Telecom Italian OS for 8700g.
Could you please be of some help? I cannot find the relevant page on the RIM site.
Thanks in advance

...
i had more Q's but i 've been reading your posts and most of them have been cleared.

I have a TMO 8700g and have at previous points installed the 8707 OS versions
.316, .334 and .347 on it without any issues or crashes or JVM errors.
One just has to follow the right steps to do it.
Currently running the 8700 Bharti .351 OS (just after the Dobson .346).

Had a question.
Is the OS itself being referred here as firmware or,
is firmware being differentiated as the 'radio' under the GPRS/UMTS folders?

This would be a better post in a new topic, but make sure that you purchase blackberry service or you will not be able to send any mail. I would start on the Telcel website, but if you read the forum you will learn that you can load any cell company's 7100g on yours but please use the forum search and look that up.

Talking Sprint..Telestra...grrr...which firmware upgrade? - 08-28-2006, 05:56 PM

Ok, I have looked and looked...and gotten quite confused as to whether there is an update for my phone or not. I have the 7130e from Sprint which currently runs 4.1.0.318 (Platform 2.2.0.127). The update on RIM's site for this phone shows a "package version" of 4.1.0.387..but the applications section and the software platform section shows the same versions I listed above, so is this an upgrade to my current firmware or the same?

Also, if this is an upgrade...which is going to offer me the better benefit...the one from Sprint or Telestra? Thanks!!!

I don't have a 7130e but, the OS on RIM's site for the Sprint model is the same version as your phone.
Version shown on phones is "Application Version" not "package version".

"Switching" to another provider's -such as Telstra or any other- OS is usually to play around with more themes.
Sometimes it may be for a better signal or volume.
Most of the time it's the individual's opinion on what benefits one derives.

I work for a large global company with many Blackberry versions and carriers in our environment. Is there a bundled AppLoader that can be obtained to avoid having to download every model/carrier combination? At 25 MB per downlaod I'm looking at days just for that, then packaging it on our side.

What's the good word on the Bharti 466 update? Works well on T-Mobile or Cingular?

Try on blackberry.com go to Downloads/browseSoftware.do (sorry, bbf does not allow me to post URL's yet)

Also, just tested 4.2 with my 7105t. Went off without any hitch. 4.2 has some additional functionality (support for multiple devices and media manager)

Do i need to wait until there is an update listed on the carrier specific download page (from the first post in this thread) or will installing from another carrier work ok? I don't want to brick my berry.

I answer to myself

The latest firmware for Telecom Italia's BB's can be found at:
blackberry.dada.net
The site is in italian only, though.
Latest 8700 fw is 309.

Question Cingular RIM 7290 Fails to Load 4.1 - 09-09-2006, 03:12 AM

I downlaoded the Cingular 4.1 Desktop Manager and the 4.1 Cingular device OS.

1) First upgraded the desktop manager.
2) Then ran the Cingular Device 4.1 OS
3) Than asked to run Desktop Manager
4) Did and then connected device
5) Once connected it asked me if I wanted to update
6) Okay and off we went
7) Got to point where it erased files
8) Then said it was loading JVM and Apps Next step was waiting for the device to initialize.

Seemed to hang here for ever. Now RIM is simply blinking:

slow red
slow red
fast red red
Pause

and then repeats.

Any ideas how do I get this back and functioning.. YIKES!!!!!!

Desktop Manager also disconnected and does not seem to want to reconnect. Tried to pull out battery and reinsert and still get same result.

Any ideas?
Help!

Thanbsk,

Norm

Talking 4.1 - successful in the end, what about 4.2? - 09-09-2006, 03:40 AM

Hi all,

I happilly confess that I've finally upgraded software on my bb7290 on Orange to the latest (I thought) version available: 4.1.
Now, after installing (not without some issues, 'cause the new system didn't imported back my data), I went on the BB site to install the software on my PC at home. What do I find out? THERE'S A NEW VERSION IN TOWN!
Oh, no, don't be so happy is not available on the BB website, no, there's just the software for the PC....
Any of you has any idea about how can we get hold on the device software for the new (4.2) version?
Thanks in advance!

C.

I have a 7250 with a small CDMA company named Cellular South. I understand that I COULD use BlackBerryModem IF Celsouth had not disabled the Modem in the Blackberry. If I downloaded the newest firmware for the BB from Verizon and installed it, would that re-enable the internal modem? Would the phone even work with Celsouth if it had Verizon's firmware in it?

Is there an easier way to enable the BBs modem?

It is probably easier to just use SharkModem from MobiShark Online Blackberry Store: Home of Shark Modem -- and maybe use a BES hosting service.

Thanks,

This actually refers to desktop software version 4.2, handheld software 4.2 does not appear to be released by anybody. Although I could be wrong.

I am fairly new to the BB world, when I perform a software update on my 8700 will it overwrite my corporate settings that have been configured by IT, or will this and my other data/programs be fine ? I don't want to try to upgrade only to find that I have a BB that does not work with our enterprise server....

thanks

Before you start your desktop manager and update be sure you are connected to your email server, i.e. VPN, direct network connection, whatever you would to connect. Then start your upgrade. Be sure and check the box for it to backup your data. It will take about 30-45 minutes. At one point after the unit has been erased and reloaded with the new software you will have the spinning hourglass for about 10-15 minutes...don't disconnect! Just let it go. When it's finally done leave it connected for a few minutes longer and the "Enterprise Activation" should start on it's own. If not, and you can't send mail from your BES account, try connecting it again to the Desktop Manager and regenerate the encryption keys. If that doesn't work, just call your IT department and they can set up a password for you to put in and activate it that way. If you are connected properly before you start the update it should activate automatically after the update. Works great. You can always disregard all that and just ask your IT guy to set up a password anyway.

Edit: Hint: delete all phone logs by going to your mail page, selecting view folder, phone call logs, highlight the date and click "delete prior". Those phone logs can really bog down Enterprise Activation if there are a bunch!

This is because you will need to delete or rename the VENDOR.XML file located at:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\VENDOR.XML
First, install BlackBerry OS 4.x but do not run BlackBerry Desktop. Next, delete or rename the VENDOR.XML. Finally, run desktop manager to install

Hi Mark,
I have a bb 6210 and would like to upgrade the OS to 4.0 what do you mean by you have to delete or rename the vendors.xml?

Don't forget to read the post date -- I wrote that in 2005. This thread has multiple pages.

The instructions to delete the vendor.xml file is in the first post.

Question BB OS Software 4.0 - 09-21-2006, 04:43 AM

[quote=Mark Rejhon]BlackBerryOS 4.x Download FAQ

Hi Mark,
I tried tonight to upgrade to 4.0 for BB 6210 the pc prompted an error msg that read " Syntax Error in 1 line of XML "even though i deleted the vendors XML...

any suggestions?
thsnks
carlogero

I Installed 4.x OS from another carrier. It doesn't work!

Finally, run desktop manager to install.

Default 7290 Software Question - can't find answer....... - 09-22-2006, 06:38 AM

Hi Guys

I currently have 4.1.0.351 (platform 1.8.0.149) software installed on my Blackberry 7290 provided by T-mobile UK and everything is grand, however the previous software that I had, had an option under network to turn off data connection (under options, network) which was very handy for either when your roaming, or like me to leave the phone switched on over night but not receive emails).

Does anybody know which version this is on, I have a feeling it was CSL (Hong Kong). I need to leave the phone on and receive text messages throughout the night, but not receive messages.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Joe
