sup hawk sgtdawg from NMz here. Other carriers have different features not all OS will work with all BBs. But you can get some cool stuff with the new OS

If you're talking about the old Mobitex models (almost all devices without a cell phone), they will become non functional midnight 12/31.
Check with your provider for details.

I upgraded to 4.1.0.252 from Telus (my provider, don't worry :P), and it looks like crap... And the downgrade doesn't work! Any hints how I can get it back to the way it was? Right now, it looks like sh*t... Black and white blocky icons, and only a few colour icons from the programs I installed before the upgrade :( I hate it. I can't even see if I have messages or not, or signal strength... I don't like it :'(

Don't lose heart too soon.
What would normally have happened under the circumstance,
is that your 'Theme' would not be working OK at this stage.
Thus the 'hotch-potch' of icons.
In this mess if you can locate the 'Settings' (or Options) icon and get to step:
>Settings>Theme>
it is possible to switch to a working theme and get back to a working phone.
I have had it happen to me a couple of times on OS install and it does
go back to a working phone if you are able to follow the steps above.
Hope that helps!

Hey guys...
I have a T-Mobile 7290 that i just got because i broke my 7100. I've read posts that people have had problems with it freezing/resetting, and mine is doing that.
people have said they do a complete wipe of the operating system, and reload it... well i downloaded the new OS, but how do you delete or remove the old one? I just want to make sure i get rid of everything thats on it that may be corrupting it.
thanks

If it's an upgrade to what you have all you need to do is install the new OS to your PC then run Desktop Manager with the BB connected. The Application Loader will wipe the device after making a backup. If the OS version didn't come from the carrier that is branded to the BB you will need to delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader after installing OS to the PC and before running DM. Hope this helps...
Here is a link with instructions for wiping the device manually before loading the OS. See post #2 in this thread.

BB 7100V upgrade -
01-10-2007, 10:52 AM
Hi,
I have downloaded and installed the BB OS4.1 for my 7100V but when I connect the phone to the PC, nothing happens. How do I upgrade my current OS from 4.0 to 4.1? I have the 4.1 software and have also installed desktop Manager 4.2.
Regards,
Vendi

Ok so if i d/l the desktop do i need to up date the OS or do i need both?
And every time I try do d/l from tmobile they tell me that " Sorry, due to high volume of download demands there are no software downloads available at this time. Please try again later today when there are fewer concurrent connections."
So can Just install this from Rim's web site or do i need to update both?

Mayurisama, no, it won't make your device available to use on the smartcomm network. The OS and carrier locks are mutually exclusive of each other.

Re-installing o/s on bb7290 handset -
02-25-2007, 12:23 AM
I downloaded JL_cmder and wiped out old operating system from my 7290 BB handset. I have installed desktop and handheld software, deleted vendor.xml file but nothing has worked out.
Every time I try to install fresh o/s on the handset I get a error message " The Application Blackberry 4.1 core applications cannot be loaded because some required files are not available."
Can some on help??

Emergency calls only usually means you don't have coverage with the mobile provider in the area or they don't support roaming there.

Well it's not accurate because 4.2 exists for the 8700 now.

Please help!
I am trying to upgrage the OS on my 8800 but I never get prompted after the new OS installation.
I am doing everything according to the instructions, the software installs fine but when 8800 is connected there are no any prompts to install the new version. Neither are there any prompts when I start the Desktop Manager.
Desktop Manager itself works just fine, no issues with synch or other issues whatsoever.
What am I doing wrong???
Thanks.

Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:/program files/common files/research in motion/apploader and then plug in the BB, run desktop manager and try again.

Go to Options >Advanced Options >Applications. Delete BBMessenger from the list.
You'll need to install the latest version of Desktop Manager to your PC. Look in Options >About and find the OS version number 4.2.1.xx. You'll need to install the matching OS software package to your PC as well. Then use Application Loader in Desktop Manager to reinstall the BBMessenger application.
The version you download from the BlackberryHELP website will not work on 4.2 devices.

If you know anyone with Verizon number just use that phone number. Otherwise you'll need someone to share their number with you.

VZW is getting sneaky now. I tried a VZW blackberry number to download the access manager for a Sierra EVDO card and it wouldn't take it.

Verizon dummy number 9785050000 doesn't work any more - however 9785051000 does. Try substituting the last 4 digits with another number.

Ok, here is my problem hope I can received some advice
I bought a 7520 from eBay, works very good, with the desktop that I have download from the internet(last version) when I tried to run the application loader it tries to communicate and got this message, "the Blackberry desktop software does not have blackberry device software for the device that you have connected to the computer
Contact your service provider or system administrator" The version of my bb is 4.10.380. I can backup and download information, also I have made all the step for removing the It policy no problems with that. What else Should I do….?
Thanks
