There's a Version 4.0.0.185 for BlackBerry 7290, with Chinese support, for StarHub Mobile Singapore:

Default VZW 7750 4.0 Upgrade - 01-30-2005, 07:48 PM

Here's my experience with the 4.0 upgrade on Verizon Wireless with the 7750.

1.) followed the instructions here...
2.) enjoyed new 4.0 operating system
3.) noticed I could no longer send e-mail from my BB.
4.) called Verizon Wireless and complained.
5.) was instructed to wipe my device with the failed password 10x
6.) said, "$hit" what do I do about this 507 error?
6a.) was told to return the device to a Verizon Wireless store.
6b.) continued to read the forums for a solution to the error.
7.) downloaded the 3.6 desktop manager
8.) downloaded the 3.7 operating system
9.) reinstalled the desktop manager and operating system
10.) started once again using the 3.7 operating system...

So basically, the 4.0 install worked... obviously though I didn't have an experience with the web browser because it's not supported... I however did not expect to have the problem sending e-mail... So if you're experiencing problems sending e-mail on your VZW 7750 after upgrading to the 4.0 OS... either please suggest to me how I can still send e-mail after the upgrade... or follow along with these instructions so you can restore your BB to the factory original state and again have full functionality.

Mark, HK CSL now has 4.0.0.185 (Applications; 4.0.0.220 Package) for the 7100g model handset. This works on other 7100 model handsets.

However, I've had issues with this release for BES. You can see my notes in the BES Admin Corner forum.

The download is not on their own downloads website, but it is on their RIM-hosted downloads site.

I think I should have gotten an OGO and a regular phone with a better rate plan.

Good news

7100t 4.0 will be relased on jan 31st.

they will be releasing all other verisons Mid-late feb. which makes no sense as all other versions are already available on the net?

This is confirmed!!!!!

Mark's link for the http://software.se.t-mobile.com downloads page has the link for the 3.8 software, but it is the same link to the 4.0 (they just need to update the originating page to be 4.0 instead of 3.8).

It appears to have been updated -- links to the 4.0 version of 7100t now.
Thanks for the heads-up!

Also changed all version numbers to Apps versions, since that's what most people are interested in. Now version numbers are directly comparable.

Thanks,

I have been told repeatedly from T-Mobile that 4.0 would allow the 7100t on the BWC plan to open .jpg attachements from EMail. I have installed 4.0 today and I do NOT have this ability. Am I missing some setting here, or am I (as usual) getting B.S. information from TMobile? Anyone using a 7100t w/ the 4.0.0.198 handheld software able to open a .jpg attachement?

It works, but unfortunately you need BES 4.0.

Image Attachments = Must have BBOS4 + BES4 (not just one or other)

If this is a critical feature, see:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=53
[Edit: Disregard the above... Image attachments NOW WORK on all BlackBerries running 4.0 since February 14th, even without BES!]

Default Question for Mark - 01-31-2005, 10:29 PM

Hi Mark,
Is Brick Breaker supported in version 4.0 OS for Bell Mobility for 6750? It is a Black/White unit? I have installed version 4.0 OS about three times now and it does not get installed.

Did you select the checkbox when you were presented with a list of applications to install? I'd be surprised if Brickbreaker was missing...if you had it before on your monochrome BlackBerry.

If worse comes to worse, you can use javaloader.exe to remove the brickbreaker game from the 3.7 OS, and install it on your 4.0 BlackBerry;

Try checking your BlackBerry Desktop Manager
-> Application Loader
-> Next
-> Look at the checkboxes and enable BrickBreaker

Thanks,

You just need to go into Settings:Options:Bluetooth and set up your headset again. Then the icon will show up.

Default Brick Breaker - 02-01-2005, 09:19 PM

Mark,

Brick Breaker did not appear in the list of apps to install. Therefore, I could not select it. I had an older version of brick breaker on my 6750. I removed BrickBreaker from version 3.6 OS prior to installing 4.0.

Tonight, I checked App Loader, and Brick Breaker was not in the list.

Can you send me a copy of the Brick Breaker game? If Not, do you know where I can get it from or what to do next?

Kikki, give me a minute and I'll see if I can get something for you. It'll be a minute though. It appears that BrickBreaker for OS4.0 is available for 75xx, 7520, 72xx, 7100x, and 77xx models.

Kikki - do you have an 8 MB or 16 MB 6710. I think the 8 MB 6710 had a cut down version of 4.0 so that it would fit in memory. I saw in another thread that you had memory issues...

Okay, that appears to be the issue. I'm surprised we had not heard anything about it. Anyhow, with OS3.x (sans 3.8), it appears that BrickBreaker was included in the OS - not an optional component. Starting with OS3.8 and OS4.0, it is now a separate application. In the ALX file for it, it only has the models listed above as being available/compatible.

My only suggestion is to email RIM and/or Bell Mobility and ask them if they plan to make BrickBreaker available for the 6750 model. If not, you may want to downgrade back to OS3.6.

I would say that I could extract the files from OS3.6 for you to attempt to load to 4.0, but its just not available separate from the OS for OS3.6.

6750 not 6710.

*edit: the 6750 only has 10MB of memory, which could point to the reason why it does not have BrickBreaker available as an option.

Good call.

I downloaded 4.0
I still regret getting the BB 7100t and switching to T-Mobile.
I have not noticed any improvements.
I still cannot view jpg attachments. The native web browser still is slow and folds over / distorts html pages, making it unusable.
I now have an additional icon on my Home Screen that says Enterprise Activation. How is 4.0 an improvement? What does it actually change?

If you do not have a BES, specifically BES 4.0, the new handheld OS will not do much for you, outside of getting you the latest and greatest version. You can not view JPGs unless you have BES 4.0.

I thinkyou'll need a data package. If you have a GPRS signal in the top left corner then you may just have to wait for t-mobile to get your activation set. It could take up to 72 hours. If you have a GSM signal in the corner then you need to pay for a data plan.

The $19.99 package from t-mobile does not include BES support. It will only allow BWC and Pop3. You'll need the $29.99 for corporate e-mail support.

Default T-Mobile 6230 Running Cingular 6280 4.0 - 02-05-2005, 01:31 AM

My T-Mobile 6230 is running the Cingular 6280 4.0OS pretty good. The Phone app is slower than it used to be, but the other areas are working well. I especially like how quick it capitalizes letters now. The only wierd thing is that my message indicator on the main screen does not have a bottom line to the open book. Just the top, two dashes and then nothing. In the Message program it is fine though. Wierd. T-Mobile Zones came right up and functioned fine. Thanks for the previous info in this thread.

Thank goodness Rogers will soon finally be on board. I should never have expected them to adopt as quickly as it seemed they did..

however, i will give credit for quick adoption of the new BWC 4.0 for public MDS.

Let's hope it remains unchanged, and hopefully we can achieve wireless modem (via usb!) functionality.

Default GPRS Needed - 02-05-2005, 09:14 AM

A lowercase gprs signal acts as a GSM service. You'll get Wireless, Emergency Calls, SMS messages, and Phone service. No E-mail, PIN or browser transmissions will work in gprs only in GPRS.

Remember though, it may take up to 72 hours for the GPRS service to be activated through T-mobile. If it hasn't been that long, there still may be hope you have a data plan.

Upgrading to OS4 will not help. You'll have to get a data plan from your provider so that the Blackberry Service book knows it can send and receive using the browser and E-mail.

Sorry if that's not good news. T-mobile has a 14 day return or there are plenty of people looking for your Blackberyy model to buy(including myself).

Default Liking the new 4.0 on my 6230 - 02-05-2005, 09:49 AM

I used Cingular's 6280 4.0OS on my t-mobile 6230 and have been putting it to the test.

Once I used each of the programs, the second time I went to use them they were lightning fast. 4.0 has turned my 6230 into a burner.

Typing is much faster. I even had the Key rate on fast before, but now it really is fast.

The phone is operating normal and functioning well. All programs are very quick. I like that the t-zones and wap transmissions give me the webpage title in the top right corner.

The way the text is beeing laid out is also better. Not as "bulky" as it used to be.

The address book is more verbose and I like the way information is displayed now. It shows what the speed dial assigned letter is!

Other than the little book at the top of my screen not showing in full, and the M= at the bottom of the calculator not doing anything, I am liking the new OS.

If anyone needs assistance with a 4.0 upgrade on their t-mobile 62xx I'd be glad to help.

call TMO and have them reprovision your data plan. although it CAN take up to 72 hours, it rarely, if ever, takes more than 20 minutes if you get on the phone with them and push a bit.

you need a data/internet plan to allow GPRS connectivity. you need BB data plan to allow for BB services to work.

Mark's sticky at the top of this thread, in describing the advantages of 4.0, says:

"Better HTML web browser (on some carriers)."

Does anyone know which carriers provide a better browsing experience with 4.0, and whether this includes speed? I guess you would need to be on BES to take advantage of any carrier browser improvements. Is this correct? Would it matter whether you're using a 72xx, 77xx, 7100, or other unit, in order to enjoy a better browser if you're lucky enough to subscribe to one of these carriers?
