My understanding is that OS4.0 deployments were, in some cases, coinciding with BWC/BIBS 4.0 rollouts with other providers. I believe Verizon and Nextel are the two that have not rolled this out. Rogers has either already rolled it out or will do so this week. TMO has rolled it out already, I think.
Obviously, you'll have to have a color handset to enjoy those improvements. It would likely not matter which handset you used, so long as the provider supported the updated BIBS/BWC.
I use TMO and can browse HTML with my 7100t with either of my browsers (TMO or corporate MDS). The 'improved' browser is simply the 'Blackberry Browser' (or MDS Browser). Hope that helps.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

True, you will get more with a color handset. However, there are web browsing improvements for monochrome devices too. I have a friend with a 6710 with the BlackBerryOS 4.0 features.

I should emphasize that the date is not confirmed. It was an internal aim, nothing concrete. We'll just have to wait a little bit longer, but at least we know what versions Rogers is intending to release...
It's possible that the 4.0.0.198 bugs caused them to spend more time testing 4.0.0.258.

I tried using other carriers' 4.0 for 6700 series to update my 6720 but apploader failed to detect any sw to update.
I have deleted the vendor.xml before connecting the 6720
my desktop is 4.0 running on WinXP Pro SP2
help? :(

T-Mobile 4.0 enterprise actrivation icon -
02-08-2005, 07:13 PM
Hi
I did the AT&T 4.0 upgrade on my T-Mobile 7230 and all went well, except that now the first icon is an "enterprise activation" icon. I don't use that, and would like to get rid of it - any ideas?
Thanks
Tim

More 4.0 grapevine information...
In another note, two different sources have indicated Verizon plans to release 4.0 for past models sometime during this month. (Knockon wood.) Take with a grain of salt, but good news nontheless.
In the meantime, several sources indicate some carrier delays on 7290 is because of bugs found in the 7290 version. So another round of testing has to go. That's why you don't see 4.0 for 7290 for AT&T, Rogers and Cingular yet. There will be no release of 4.0.0.198 for OS4 on 7290. The whisper version number is 4.0.0.258
Free salt shaker included.

are you sure that 4.0.0.258 is the apps version? considering that the package version for .198 is .234, i would assume that .258 is the package version. thats a pretty big jump between version increments.

It's entirely possible. Bottom line, is that it's a newer version than Apps 4.0.0.198

So are there 'tentative' dates for 7290 handheld 4.0 from Cingular? Mark? You seem to be in the loop.

Just so I'm not getting my hopes up here....
....we know Rogers is going to release BB OS4.0 soon, but are they for sure going to offer TCP for non BES users?
I've installed the AT&T 4.0 version without any trouble, but am unable to use TCP apps such as BerryVine messenger, or Ikodorro's Mobile SSH. I've set my TCP setting to : internet.com as per a post elsewhere on the board, but get 'failed to open tunnel' error when trying to connect.
I can only assume that either the Rogers info is incorrect, or that they have not enabled TCP on the network.
Any comments on this?

I hear that Cingular is "trying" for mid-February for the 7290. Depending on testing.....YMMV.

Hey Mark,
Thanks for the info. I ended up calling Rogers and I was told that Rogers had added 'internet.com' to everyone's account. However, upon looking at my account he discovered that mine did NOT have it.
He added it, I removed-replaced the battery and now it's good!

Public release of Verizon Handheld software v. 4.0 -
02-11-2005, 08:40 AM
I heard today from a Verizon Account Manager that Handheld 4.0 will be released publicly 2/18/05. Hopefully that date does not change.

update on the Verizon Browser availability for the 7750, Tech support said that Feb 12th is the Hard Go Live date for 4.0 OS and Browser for all Verizon Blackberry models.
I really, really want to believe them. I have been burned by them so many times though.
They said you would have to call tech support to get the download info. I thought that was odd as they ussually post it online. but he didnt hesitate on comitting them to the 12th of February. Said it as if it had been announced to the whole World.

I was personally told today, by a Verizon rep who manages large customer accounts, that 4.0 would be available on Feb. 18. She promised to e-mail me the link.

Even here we have differences in release dates between Corporate Customer Care and Data Technical Support Techs.
Oh well.
I still hope it is the earlier of the two.

I am really hoping that Verizon taking so long on getting 4.0 OS out to us means they have been trimming the size down to allow us some speed and memory space.
I need to put my magmic games somewhere.
Has there been any size differences between other cell phone companies rom versions? or do they all come out around the 10MB that telus 4.0 takes up on the BlackBerry?

From version to version for the same family of handsets, there should not be much difference. If any, it will be less than 1MB (and thats likely pushing it).

7100t & Desktop manager 4.0.0.30 -
02-11-2005, 07:52 PM
Hello all,
As far as I understand Desktop Manager 4.0.0.30 for 7100t does not support modem option. A general recommendation is to downgrade to 4.0.0.23.
The only question I have: where can I get this version of software (since t-mobileapps.com has 4.0.0.30 as "olny approved version of Desktop Manager")?

You have to install somebody else's 4.0 at the moment. Please follow the instructions on Page 1 and get Vodafone's version, and delete the VENDOR.XML file.

probably a bug substantial enough to delay. i know TMO has had some issues, thus why they have only released the consumer-pressured version for the 7100t. considering the asian and european markets released early versions of the handheld software, its nice to know that quality control does exist somewhat here in america and canada. just think, if they released buggy code, it would be increased support costs to them not to mention the complaining and whining everyone else would be doing because they had something wrong with their handset. be thankful instead of impatient.

4.0.0.30 is the only version i know of, to be honest. the tcp/ip modem works fine with this version.
