hmm, I've issues installing modem on my Win XP Pro SP2. Device is not detected as a PnP device. On the other hand, I have RIM Virtual Serial Port device installed in COM ports (COM11). However, any attempt to use this COM port as a modem with standard driver (Windows driver) result in successfull installation of modem but unsuccessfull diagnostic query (device doesn't work properly). Any attempt to use a modem driver that came with Desktop Manager 4.0.0.30 result in following message during installation: "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware". The specified location in this case is C:\Program Files\ Common Files\ Research In Motion\Modem Drivers\rimserial.sys
Any suggestions?

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Modem Drivers
- rimserial.cat
- RimSerial.inf
- RimSerial.sys
These are the correct drivers for the IP modem. The modem is listed as a Standard Modem (mine is on COM4). This should not be something you have to do manually - just connecting your handheld should 'install' it and opening BDM4.0 allows you the interfacing to use it. If you do not see the modem listed above (or if you do, even), disconnect your handheld, remove the modem from device manager, reconnect your handheld and see if the modem is reinstalled in device manager.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

I have the files in place. The problem is Device Manager doesn't detect RIM as modem (and obiously does nothing with these files).
I had this problem before when I was using BDM 3.6.x. The problem gone away when I upgraded to BDM 3.8.x (but then I'd an issue with connectivity -- I was able to connect but I wasn't about to do anything after).
I'll try to reinstall BDM. Maybe this will resolve the issue.

reinstall didn't change anything. however, I got it working with Windows driver for 33600 bps modem. The speed is a bit horrible (I probably got spoiled by DSLs and T3s at the office ), but it works.

Right, so it's still not on the Rogers website. I wonder if that link is even official.. what do they use that page for anyway? I figure it was for carriers that don't want to support release of handheld software such as telus/fido/etc.

That link is RIM's Blackberry site so it's "official" whatever that means. Rogers softare generally appears here prior to being posted on www.rogers.com. I don't know why. Phone Ted Rogers and ask him

This is the link to watch for an official Rogers software upgrade (and 4.0 is not there yet).

I'm on a 7290 with a tmo sim. I just upgraded my HK CSL 4.0 code to the rogers code and all is working perfectly. In fact I noticed the rogers version is the same that is shipping on the verizon 7250's. So... seems pretty good.

I've been trying to backup my new tmo 7230 using AT&T 4.0 OS and Desktop. I keep getting a Communication Error. "Data was not regognized by the handheld"
Funny thing is. It worked the first day I had the unit. Now, it's a no go. Of course t-mobile support won't help due to the 4.0 thing.
If I use the Selective backup under advanced options I can back up everything but the "content store". Everything else communicates fine, but not a great option for quick and easy.
Any ideas?

I have been told repeatedly from T-Mobile that 4.0 would allow the 7100t on the BWC plan to open .jpg attachements from EMail. I have installed 4.0 today and I do NOT have this ability. Am I missing some setting here, or am I (as usual) getting B.S. information from TMobile? Anyone using a 7100t w/ the 4.0.0.198 handheld software able to open a .jpg attachement?
|
I have a 7100t and upgraded to 4.0. I DO NOT have BES and CAN view JPGs on my unit. The only problem I have after upgrading the OS is that my calculator no longer works. After spending time on the phone wtih T-Mobile PDA support, I was transferred to RIM. RIM attempted to resolve the problem by having me WIPE the unit CLEAN and reinstall the OS. Unfortunately, that did not resolve the issue. As a result, T-Mobile sent me a unit which I just received yesterday.

Cingular 7290 with Rogers 4.0 Beta running great -
02-16-2005, 03:09 PM
Just wanted to pass along that I successfully upgraded to 4.0 with my Cingular 7290. Here's what I did: - 1. Installed BBery Desktop 3.6 to 4.0 from Cingular's RIM page (just let the installer do its thing)
2. Sync'd device with no issues
3. Installed BBerry OS 4.0.0.234 from Roger's RIM page to my computer
4. Connected device and auto-sync started; software crashed
5. Remembered to rename vendor.xml and then restarted BBerry software (I had done this to get the AWS build installed, but forgot to check if the new desktop software put it back ... it did)
6. Connected device and let it perform the upgrades
So far so good ... been running for a few hours and playing around with various apps that people have complained about in this form. Haven't seen anything fail yet. I was previously running the AWS 3.8 build since it was a little newer than the Cingular release.
JPG attachment shows up if I send to my BWC address but retrieve of the attachment fails (does nothing). Guessing this is a Cingular issue of some sort - hard to call them on it since I'm not supposed to have 4.0 on my device yet. I haven't upgraded my corporate BES to 4.0 yet so I can't comment on whether that works or not. Hope to do that within the next couple weeks.

? after downloading 4.0 for TMo 7230 -
02-17-2005, 04:20 PM
I downloaded the AT&T v4.0 and followed the following directions:
This is because you will need to delete or rename the VENDOR.XML file located at:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\VENDOR.XML
First, install BlackBerry OS 4.0 but do not run BlackBerry Desktop. Next, delete or rename the VENDOR.XML. Finally, run desktop manager to install.
After I changed "VENDOR.XML", I went into: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\RIMDeviceManager" but nothing happens when I click on the "RIMDeviceManager" program...
I'm sure I probably am an idiot an missing an important, simple step, but I'm stumped. (Already tried reseting my laptop, and now I'm out of ideas.)
Thanks for any help and feel free to mock the newbie.

Verizon -

Hi all. I just dloaded the Telus 4.0 upgrade for my Verizon 7750 and installed it. It worked like a charm. Then only problem I'm having is the internet, but i wasn't able to use it before the upgrade, so who cares. Everything else works fine. I can send and receive emails. Later,

Bull3001 No T-Mobile 4.0 for the 7230, however, the AT&T 4.0OS will work. I'm using it on my tmo 7230 without problem.
Follow the instructions in the front of this thread http://www.blackberryforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=1995
and you should be on your way.
LightBringer, did you run the loader.exe file from the AppLoader folder? The device manager.exe will only bring up an icon in your systray that will allow you to set some option configs for the desktop software. The loader.exe will install 4.0 on your BB.

i was just wondering if u r in the US, even thought u have a 7230, did you have to end up purchasing the $20 per month deal for BB internet access to get internet, or it worked witout that on AT&T OS4?

Jibi,
Thanks for the update. I'll be installing that myself.
Bull3001,
the OS4.0 upgrade will not allow data transfer unless you have a data plan with t-mobile. I have the 19.99 deal that allows BWC(Blackberry Web Client) e-mail and Web browsing. You'll notice a GPRS signal.
If you want BES(Blackberry Enterprise Server) you'll have to bump up to the 29.99 plan. If you have gprs or gsm as your signal, then you don't have web and won't get web even with a 4.0 upgrade. You'll need to have a GPRS signal.
Lightbringer,
Glad all is working. I've found a few choice words kick things into gear too.
Thanks again Jibi we'll be looking for the upgrade.
