Hey Cohiba Try this -
05-01-2005, 07:33 PM
I updated my 7520 and lost nol browser too. Not sure what prob is with email, but basically the update didnt take. Upgrade desktop software to 4.0.
Remove any handheld software from PC thru control panel. Load 4.0 handheld software. After loaded plug phone into PC and run desktop manager application loader. When it finishes its thing, if the BBbrowser is there(not the nol browser) then your good. If not, do a hard reset, take battery out for 30 sec to a min. After batt is re-installed and it is finished booting the BBbrowser should be there and other connection issues should be goot.

7520M_PBr4.0.0_rel319_PL1.4.0.40_A4.0.0.249-Nextel.exe
Thats the file i used..
only thing that is colored is apps like webviewer, emailviewer, bblight.. etc
browser is just a globe it seems, not the globe with people standing around it.. to turn wireless on and off its an airplane icon...everything is black and white except the apps like i said.. any help? anyone have an idea?

That will happen if you loaded a theme on your phone before upgrading it. You need to re-check the theme box in the application loader. External themese will replace built in theme, and if they aren't checked off, your phone will come up in black and white.
Another option would be to fully backup your phone, then 507 it and completely reload the OS.

wow .. i cant believe this .. all this time, that was the problem .. and im sitting there looking at this theme box as i never installed before so i didnt choose to install it before..
just checked the box and everything is back to normal .. that is of course after going to a nextel service center going through some torture with them, coming home only to see they didnt install the most recent upgrade and my desktop manager wanted to load the new software up and the same thing happened, no theme!!
now i know what happened.. and they said i corrupted the install .. morons..
thanks alot man ..
Mark maybe you can add this not to the faq.. may happen to someone else ..

It happened to me that's why I knew about it.
Also amusing was one of our test phones accidentally being issued to the user with a Vodafone theme on it. (It shipped with the t-mobile theme enabled but somehow she enabled the vodafone theme). The helpdesk ticket was something along the lines of "Can't use phone, phone all red"

New version of 4.0 for Cingular -
05-07-2005, 08:08 PM
Any rumors out there about a timeline for the next release of 4.0 for Cingular? The curren version has that annoying 'file in the wrong tree' issue which makes it unusable for me.
Not holding my breath, but hoping...hoping...hoping...
Have a great weekend!

Why the shortcut keys had dissapeared in r. 4.0? -
05-23-2005, 01:27 PM
I have had a 7230 which I have been very useful for me and now I just bought a 7290.
My big surprise is that this new one does not have the possibility to use the speed-keys to access the different functions and now we have the possibility to add quick dials instead (which is not as useful). I like very much the possibility to access the different functions with just a key and not use the wheel that needs more time and precision.
Is it possible to get this functionality back ???

- Quadband
The electronics in the 7290 is more noticeably different from the 7210 / 7230 / 7230 .....
That's why there's a separate firmware for the 7290 compared to the others.

Yes. Go into the phone application.
Click the wheel and select Options / General Options
Set Dial From Home Screen to No
And there they are

good for you then.
you may want to check the sub-version number. My 7100g came installed with v4.0 too but it was not the latest v4.0 sub-version

I had installed the latest version of 4.0 on my 7100t as had others in this thread. The problem is that sound quality went way down with the 4.0 software compared to the original 3.8 software. The 3.8 sftware had other problems, but there is no comparrison between the 3.8 and 4.0 software in terms of sound quality on each end with 3.8 being far superrior.

Internet Browser now on Telus w/o BES -
05-31-2005, 03:02 PM
The Internet Browser now works on Telus Blackberries without needing a BES server. Supports xhtml and handles large volumes of data transfer compared to wml on the WAP Browser.
They just enabled it this week. Official launch on June 8th. Install OS 4.0 and register your host routing table and maybe you need to send the Internet Browser service book from your web client.
Just beware of the browser's xhtml form bug posted here:

It may be easiest to post a separate thread. Please post at least 5 to 10 sentences describing everything and every step that you see. You need to be detailed before anyone is able to help you.

I have a 7290 from O2 in UK. Any idea where I can get even current firmware for that (presumably 3.8) as I need to reinstall because of a glitch at startup?

@xombi and jdover, if a different provider has a newer version of the OS, install it. you will simply need to install the exe file you download, delete the vendor.xml file (search for the location on here), then install it as you would any other version.
this has been documented within this thread, i believe. if not, its somewhere on the forum.

guys i downloaded the version from CSL coz i want chinese, but i get this error msg "error reading setup initialization file". the version i DL is "7290C_PBr4[1].0.0_rel205_PL1.8.0.113_A4.0.0.172-CSL.exe"
anyone encounter this problem before?
my rough guess would be that because my HD driver letter is E:// instead of C://... could this be the problem? any pro can show me some light?

Thanks Jibi, however the reason I was specifically asking about O2, is I need to give it to O2 customers when they ask (and no I dont work for O2 before anyone asks!) however no one I ask seems to know where the 7100x software is located ;)

Sprint released BlackBerryOS 4.0.0.329 (Apps 4.0.0.259) for model 7250
https://www.blackberry.com/SoftwareD...ient=URNZcPHMm
This should work on Verizon and Bell Mobility MODEL 7250 devices.
One interesting question is: Does this firmware enable EVDO BROADBAND MODEM capability on the Verizon 7250?

As of today June 30th, 2005:
Need latest 7520 firmware for your Telus/Nextel? Nextel has 4.0.0.249
Need latest 7250 firmware for your Verizon/Bell/Sprint/Telus? Sprint has 4.0.0.259
Need latest 7230 firmware for your T-Mobile/Cingular? Rogers has 4.0.0.219
Need latest 7280 firmware for your Cingular/Rogers? Rogers has 4.0.0.219
Need latest 7290 firmware for your T-Mobile/Cingular/Rogers? T-Mobile has 4.0.2.32 (newer than Cingular and Rogers 4.0.0.219)
Need latest 7100 firmware for your T-Mobile/Cingular/Rogers? T-Mobile has 4.0.2.32 (newer than Cingular and Rogers 4.0.0.219)
Remember, installing other vendors firmwares is an "at-your-own-risk" endeavour. Historically, people have successfully installed firmware from another vendor on the same model BlackBerry. (There are some exceptions: 7210/7230/7280 upgrades will work on each other)

New versions released by T-Mobile
(possibly also compatible with non T-Mobile 7100/7290's, upgrade at your own risk)
Version 4.0.2.32 for 7100 Series
Version 4.0.2.32 for 7290

The T-Mobile software/firmware update should resolve the "reboot durring phone call" issue with the previous 4.0 swr release. devices affected are/were: RIM 7100t ( 4.0.0.198 ) and RIM 7290 ( 4.0.0.198 ).
