OK guys, I've had my 7100t for about 4 days now. T-Mobile e-mailed me about the upgrade, but I'm on a Mac -- any hope?

I have noticed posts on bbSpell and PocketDay forums indicating problems running those programs after upgrading to TMobile 4.0.2.32. According to the developer of bbSpell, he was caught by supprise by the new TMobile OS upgrade and RIM doesn't even make a 4.0.2 simulator available yet. If you run bbSpell or PocketDay I might hold off on the "upgrade".

I just upgraded to a 7290 from a 7280. Under options/about it reads 4.0.0.219. I applied the latest patches labeled 274 but it still reads 219.
Also, under options/network I do not get the choice of automatic versis manual like I used to on the 7280.

Both those programs worked fine for me after the upgrade, but stopped working a few days ago. Now I just get a "Bad DNS" error. Is anyone else on T-Mobile BWC seeing this?

Ok, here is what I don't get. I have gone back and forth between V4 and V3 on the 7100t with T-Mobile. When I have ANY of the 4.x.x.x versions installed, people tell me I sound like I'm in a tunnel, or tons of static, or they can't hear me, etc. This isn't on EVERY call, but many of them. When I went back to 3.8, not one complaint. I know people have talked about this audio problem before. I am nearly fed up with RIM for not solving this. How could it NOT be the absolute #1 priority? If you can't make a friggin call from a phone, what good is it? I'm about to go back to 3.8, but of course there are interface issues that are worse on 3 than 4. Does RIM have any plans to fix this? Anyone know?

I couldn't agree with you more. For RIM to ignore the voice and connectivity issues on this phone is to make it worthless to me. I am already planning on switching to a WME device, the HP 6500 because of this issue. I can always get a RIM 957 for instant email if I find I need it faster than every 15 minutes.

It's making me seriously consider switching to something else. I just read a nice long article about RIM and blackberries in MIT Technology in Review. It was praising RIM for it's approach at the market (by making deals on the sw side). It also made mention of the growing research and providers of push messaging. As soon as a Treo or any phone that can actually make phone calls and deliver email is available, I'm out. The Blackberry is resembling a Jaguar to me now. A really pretty piece of trash. You wouldn't sell someone a car without a working engine, so why sell them a phone without a working phone.

I am not a fan of generalizations, but it sure appears to me that most people complaining about the BlackBerrys are people who own the 7100 series. I dont hear the same amount of complaints from 72xx series users. I for one have a 7250 and have not experienced any of the complaints i hear here. THe few problems I have had has benn that i did not know how to use the phone correctly and thanks to the help I have gotten here that is mostly behind me. Anyway, not that it matters since in the long run, the world keeps turning just the same, but instead of dropping BBs altogether maybe switching away from the 7100 series is the answer. Granted they are closer in looks to regular candybar phones and all but my beliefs is that you dont buy a BB for its looks but for what it can do, and its functionality. The full keyboard alone makes a big difference, e-mails, messages, tasks, etc, are all functionalities that are made a lot easier with a full keyboard. Just my humble opinion.

I had a blueberry first before the 7100. It had its fair share of problems but nothing like what I have happen with this one. The bluetooth issues seem to be coming from all models with 4.x. As for the keyboard, once I got used to it, i can type just as fast as I could on the full keyboard. Problem too is that I don't want to spend a trillion dollars buying blackberries. I love the phone except for the whole "can't use it as a phone" thing....oh, and the lack of proper GPRS connectivity keeping my GPS from talking to it. Definitely getting the itch, not that anyone would care. The only thing really keeping me with RIM is the push. Once other places pick that up, I think RIM will need to figure something out.

I realize that RIM is a small company compared to some of the giants in the business; however, I am really surprised that they don't have a tech assigned to monitor this board and provide official RIM feedback where appropriate. I don't mean dealing with newbie issues, that is what we are here to do and help others. I mean technical questions and issues that only RIM can answer.
Ignore your leading edge customers long enough and they will go away. The question is, is that what they want? They may soon get it. Honest answers such as: here are a list of our none issues, we may not have a solution today but rest assured we are working on them. The general estimates of when we think we will have fixes is listed and as quick as we get them we will post them for you. Wouldn't that be a breath of frsh air. I would be a lot more inclined to stick with a company like that than one that ignores or tries to hide their problems.

Experience w/ Sprint Firmware on Verizon 7250? -
07-27-2005, 04:18 PM
Does anyone have experience applying the Sprint firmware to the Verizon 7250? I am looking for a bluetooth improvement for using a GN Netcom bluetooth headset that works with both my office phone and cell phone.
Bluetooth has been working fine in my car (Dodge UConnect) and with Moto headset. I'm not sure that the problem is BlackBerry - may be GN Netcom.
Thanks in advance,
Joe

Mark,
The 4.0.2.32 for Tmobile has been posted but when it is placed in the software config, it doesnt show you the applications. You would need the file fixalx.exe. Let me know if you are aware of this.
This was a modification done by Tmobile to their handheld code for the 7290

The Tmobile 7290 Code 4.0.2.32 does not expand all the software when pointing to the software configuration. There was a fixalx.exe released for it but its not been posted on the tmo site. You would have to call BlackBerry/RIM for it and or I can send it to you via email with the instructions for it.

Also, if you go to celloneusa.com and click on the link for Blackberry Software Updates, you can access the whole list.

Yes.. Cellular One (run by Dobson) is GSM. I have it and use the 7100g. I've had really no problems with it. I'm on the $75 plan that they were running for a while... don't know if they still have it.

O2 Ireland BB Upgrade Downloads -
08-29-2005, 03:54 PM
Guys,
Just got my first BB - a 7100x on O2 in Ireland and I am blown away by the interface...
Used one of the links here to Upgrade it to 4.0.2.36 and it now transfers MMSs as well...very impressive.
Since then, I have been talking to O2 and they seem to host their files on: https://www.o2ug.ie/blackberry/7100M...A4.0.0.198.exe so maybe we could add it to the list - there are a few Irish BB users that mightn't have the persistance to get that link from the network.
On a separate note does anyone know if its possible to sync the address book on the device with the Web Server (mine is www.o2mail.ie)
Thanks,
Darragh

Hi, using a 7230 on UK O2
Asked them for the handheld software - they said they dont have a specific version so just download one off the blackberry site.
So I chose the vodaphone UK one - closest I could find.
Upgrade went OK once I had deleted VENDOR.xml <<<<<<<
But, now the brickbreaker app won't appear.
I go to settings/applications and its listed there, just wont appear on the menu.
Deleted through the desktop manager and reloaded, no good.
Delete through the menu and reloaded, no good.
Deleted using javaloader and reloaded, no good.
Any ideas anyone? I don't care, but my girlfriend thinks its the only reason to have a blackberry.
