I am running version 4 code on the handheld and the desktop.
Neither of the menus above can be found. There is no "Redirector Settings" option in the Desktop Manager, and no Email Settings menu under Messages=>Options in the handheld.

Too many shortcuts! -

I've been fustrated that I can never seem to remember shortcuts, so I decided to annotate them as below. You may (or may not!) find this useful. This is on 4.1 on an 8700g. It's a shame RIM don't underscore the shortcut letters on the menu texts...

to change the "sent from my blackberry" thing at the bottom of your outgoing emails, you just log onto your online email account and change your "signature" although if you do that then people will not know that you have the coolest device since the invention of the microwave.

If you are running software version 4.0.xx or lower this selection is only to tease you. You must be running 4.1.xx or higher in order to use "themes".

How do you mark hundreds of messages as read? There used to be a shortcut in my 7230 but I can't find it on my newest BB from Verizon. Thanks

My 4.0.0.185 BlackBerry does it properly -- it avoids capitalizing the first letter of a password field. That's the way it should be for password fields!

What about typing out web addresses in text messages when the first letter u type is the "h" in "http" or the "w" in "www"?

I would like to know if there is a keyboard shortcut to access the trackwheel menu w/out having to click the trackwheel. This would solve the above problem and give access to a great amount of other options w/out clicking the trackwheel...

Do people hate using the trackwheel because thay think it's slower, or because they're afraid it's fragile?

Message Flags -
04-26-2006, 05:13 PM
I didn't see this when I searched but has anyone seen the <$removeondelivery> flag? It deletes the email when it is delivered to the device. Aside from this and <confirm> does anyone know if there are there any others?

I am looking for a way to send periodic test messages to users on my BES to confirm that they are working. But I'd like for them to not notice that I'm doing it. This looks promising but I stumbled across it in that same link that you posted. So I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone has found other flags that may be usefull as well.

Changing the battery life bars to actual numbers. -
05-10-2006, 05:41 PM
Is there a way to change the battery life bars to actual numbers? I found the tip on how to change the signall strength by holding down the ALT key and typing nmll but didn't find anything on changing the battery life meter to numbers. I apologize in advance if this was already asked and answered. I did try searching but came up empty.

Install BBToday (a free app) and you will be able to see it in numbers.

Hyperlink dialing tags? -
05-15-2006, 06:01 PM
Does anyone know if it's possible to force the "Phone Number Hyperlink" to dial a non-standard number? For example, I want my conference call appointments to have the dial in number followed by two pauses ("N"s on my 7510) followed by the conference call number and a #.
I can dial this in one entry from the phone screen, but to be truly useful, it needs to be a hyperlink from the appointment screen. But, if I include the extended dialing info, the hyperlink disappears. Any ideas? Are there tags I can use to force the dialer?

Answering my own post for posterity.
Using a hyperlink with the "tel:" type (instead of http) does the trick. Also, to insert spaces (at least with my Nextel service) use commas (,) for a 2 second pause per comma.
So, <a href="tel:18665551234,,12345#">Click to dial</a> did the trick.

Delivery Confirmation: Add “<confirm>” to the beginning of your subject line. You must include the brackets. You will get an email back confirming delivery of your message. This is on BB 7250 (4.1) using BES 4.0 on an Exchange Email System.

Does anyone know a key to mark an email opened? I will read emails in OWA or Outlook and they are still unread on my BB so I need a way to mark them read quickly.

Useful for those looking to RETURN devices shortly after buying:
Options -> Status. Type "buyr". Shows Data Usage and Voice Usage, up to 250KB data, and up to 60 minutes voice. Useful due to fact carriers will only allow returns of devices if under a certain threshold..
