Exclamation Software error Blackberry 7100V - 11-17-2005, 10:36 AM

Hello, I hope you can help me.

I own a Blackberry 7100V for about 3 or 4 months now and yesterday I had a white screen with the message "catastropi....." and under that a "reset" option. I can reset the phone, but it ends up with the same error message. I have been back to the shop yesterday and they told me they need to send it back to Vodafone to have it repaired. I have been looking a bit on internet to see if I could find any solutions myself and they say on several forums that it should be possible to install new software on the phone myself.

I have been downloading all needed software and using the latest updates of all applications. The problem is when I use the Blackberry Desktop Manager and select the application loader all seems to go well until I get the message:

A fatal error has occurred while updating your device's software. Please try again. Device communications error encountered. [A:0x0000000E]

This happens in the first step "Load JVM and system software" of the application loader and it is in the process off "Erasing Applications".

Is there any way to fix this? Am I doing something wrong? There seems to be data missing from my phone now as I do not get the "catastrophi...." message anymore but just a black screen and the led indicator on the blackberry signals red twice every 2 seconds.

Hope you can help me sort this out without sending it back to Vodafone.

Sounds like it's done to me. I've seen this same problem on 77XX and 72XX and all had to be returned to the carrier. No amount of work with javaloader or application loader could get them running again. I can't remember what the exact hardware failure was though.

Search for a program called "Javaloader" on the forums. One of the threads has excellent instructions on how to use Javaloader. It will wipe out the BB completely. You then restart Desktop Manager and attempt to reload the OS on a formatted BlackBerry.

Thanks for your reply. I have tried this with the javaloader, but i get the message "connecting to device....error opening port"

You have any idea what can be wrong?

For anyone who cares.... It has been a while, sent my Blackberry back to the shop and received a brand new one....... Problem solved but still think it is possible to solve in some other way. Call me stubborn.
