I posted on this a while ago on this thread. In talking to a Verizon tech at my local V store he said that this was deliberate on V's part because they had been having trouble with the previous, faster charge times frying batteries and were getting sick of having to replace them. It seemed that V set the new OS update to allow the battery to charge more slowly. It is probably possible to hack, but who knows how, and besides, it would surely void our warranties if we did hack it.
The solution is simple, if a pain: Make sure that every moment your Blackberry can be plugged in to a charging source, it is; in the car, at your office plugged into your computer or the wall, at home at night; basically, anytime that you are not walking around with it and can have it plugged in.

Warning!! I was setting my boss's 7130e with VZ access and it completely killed the phone. Verizon claimed it was because I attempted to tether it before the account had been properly activated. It took several phone wipes and some confusing programming before the phone was able to recieve any data at all.

I believe this is a documented issue already, at the very least it was covered when the 7250s were upgraded, at the Vrizon site, they were clear that it should not be attemted until such time as everything was first setup at their end. The few people that tried it without went through hell, and had to wipe their units and reload everything and wait till Verizon was through in order to try it. One thing I have learned about BBs in general and not carrier specific is that we need to exercise patience when doing upgrades and the like. We cant be in a hurry to get things working. Remember Gallo wines, "We will sell no wine before its time." That applies to BBs too.

Thanks for the directions with the EVDO, worked perfectly with my 7250. Had a very helpful BB Tech Guy who helped me provision everything.

Hey - I got my EVDO and Tethering working just from hints here - I never called Verizon! so my question is .... what am I paying extra, if anything, to tether to my laptop? On my old LG phone a 1x tethered just used my minutes, I guess this just uses my unlimited data?
Thanks!

Verizon will charge you per kilobyte unless you also get the tethering option which at the moment is an extra $15.00 dollars per month but there are rumors that will sonn go up to $30.00, so if you plan to be doing a lot of tethering, a word to the wise is sufficient.

My corporate office updated me to broadband access and since I connected to VZ access (maybe a coincidence) it has given me DCR. I've wiped the blackberry and a couple of things to note:
I cannot register. It never gives me the message of registration.
Also, after doing the ##000000 that area that is supposed to contain 3 user names mine has only 2 user names. I don't have the MIP (i think that's what it is)area underneath the SIP

Performing the steps here allowed me to get my MIP area back.

I then put vzw in the SIP password and I'm up and going again.

I added the $15 connect package and its all working great! Thanks for this thread.
Does anyone know if this works via bluetooth - I am assuming there is no DUN profile added? and it must go via VZAccess?
Thanks

Does anyone know why the SIP password does not stay. I change it and save and it tells me it updates successfully but then it will not show on the SIP line next time I go check. Is it possible this is how it is suppossed to work once it is updated?

Data Connection Refused Error.
I live in Birmingham, AL. I was in Ft. Smith, AR today and as soon as I got off the airplane, I got a DCR. I turned off the BB, turned it back on and got it again. I then called Verizon technical support and the gentlemen told me to dial *22899. I told him I did that after I upgraded to 4.0.2 and EVDO, but he told me to do it anytime I went to a new area. He said it downloaded the location of the cell towers in that area.
I dialed *22899 and got a message from Alltel and to push 2 to activate. Since I have very little confidence in Verizon Technical support based on their track record, I didn't do it. I just waited until I got back to BHM tonight to get my e-mail.
My question is does anyone know exactly what dialing *22899 does?

To all who are having trouble with the roaming indicator:
This may be too simple, but I just called VZW data support, made no mention of BBA or any updates, and just said that I had a constant roaming indicator present. The tech told me to do the ##000000 thing, and had me change the Home SID number to something other than it was. Anyway, all's good now, and no roaming charges. Good luck.

If I Could Do This Update Anyone Could.... -

Hello All,
I live here in the south Florida market, and just got my 1st Blackberry today. Got it up and running and did the above-mentioned update to have the broadband service. I followed exactly what everyone is the captioned posts said, and it worked flawlessly. Not a problem.
Great advice all. Thanks in Advance.................Matt

SIP Password -
02-02-2006, 08:35 PM
I wonder if this is similar and I have asked this before and not gotten an answer so here it goes again.. I have changed the SIP password after dialing ##000000 to VZW and then proceeded to save it, and it says it was successful and proceeds to reset my phone with a reboot, all of that is fine.
However here comes the rub, if I go in again to look at it the password is blank again, my question is if this is the way it is suppossed to be or is there something I am doing wrong or that is not right with my BB? Any answers that can help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah I've noticed the same. The password disappears, but I don't know whether it's actually not saving to the device or simply not being shown.
The guy I talked to didn't even mention the password thing, but rather asked me what the Home SID number was and where I was currently located. He told me to change it to something else and all was fine after that. Also, he said that I never was actually roaming...the BB was connecting to the right towers, but that number didn't update for some reason.

Actually, yes, you can now tether on Bell Canada if you use www.mobishark.com AND you use BES (can be via a hosting service) .... It is third party software .... 1X speeds only for 7250, but you get EVDO speeds on the Bell Mobility 7130e when tethering.

No everything is still working well with the exception of tethering, and wireless synch but this is because of the upgrade to 4.1 OS and not due to EVDO. I have no roaming triangle at all. And the SIP question only became aparent when I lost the ability to tether as a result of the 4.1 upgrade. Previous to now I had never checked there to see if that stayed in place or not, I had not had a reason to check.

So has anyone heard when they will release new firmware to fix the DCR problems in the v4.0.2 code on th 7250? I have tried everything and when I get into an area where the signal might be marginal, then it will start cycling between EVDO and 1xRTT which kills the battery and inevitably results in Data Connection Refused. Very Frustrating!

Vzw Bb 7250 Bes Dm 4.0.1.10 Os 4.0.0.204 -
02-07-2006, 03:01 PM
OK, here it goes. I've read so much info on this my head is spinning. I've had my BB7250 for ~4 months, it is on a BES. When I go to the VZW page it only lists 4.0 desktop manager and OS versions for my phone. It does however list version 4.1 for the 7130e. And as I work for Verizon landline I know that the possibility of not getting the right answer on the first call is high, I figured I would go to the source.
First- If I download the 4.1 Software from the BB site (to me this looks like it is more for BES servers administrators) will it cause a problem with my VZW service.
Second- Do I need to contact VZW to do anything, as I have the unlimited data plan along with the phone plan, other than adding the vzw password to stop the data connection refused errors?
Any info anyone can pass along would be appreciated, again there is a lot of info on this available here and I just want to get the latest.
Thanks

Hey all,
Thanks for this guide! This forum has been such a great resource to me, I never have to post any questions!
I upgraded my 7250 to v4.0.2.41 by following the steps, and everything seems to be working just fine. My two problems are probably more than an annoyance than anything, but I wanted to see if anyone else ran into the same issues:
1) There is a solid roaming triangle on the screen when I am in an EVDO area. This doesn't seem to affect anything so far. I've called VZW Data Services a couple times on this, and they said that it's nothing to worry about, and that it "should" be fixed in a PRL update later.
2) While in the EVDO coverage area, my display sometimes shows 1X (and will sometimes bounce between 1X and 1XEV), even though I believe that it's using EVDO (graphical glitch maybe?). I tested this by making sure the phone shows 1X, refreshing a web browser page to constantly have a data connection open, and I can *still* receive incoming calls during this test. This makes me think that the display is incorrectly showing 1X, but is actually on EVDO.
I've done the *228 opt 1 and 2 several times over the past couple of days to no avail. Like I said, it may just be a minor annoyance, but I thought I'd check here first.

Ahh, that makes sense... I checked my area on a map, and it's close to the border of EVDO coverage.
Good call, thanks!

I have been experimenting with try to figure out why I go on the cycle of 1X, 1XEV and DCR. One thing I am trying and I have yet seen it cycle since yesterday afternoon was to go to Options --> Network and change the Network Selection Mode to Home Only. I was wondering if anyone else had tried this or has this set.

7250 on Earthlink -
02-14-2006, 10:43 AM
Greetings oh wise BlackBerry Leaders!
I just received a 7250 from Earthlink to replace my old original 957.
I am excited about the new speeds and all of the other features (especially the browser) which will now be available to me (i'm not going to use the phone at all)
My question is...CanI tether with the Earthlink model?
I've seen lots of comments about Verizons (and yes I know Earthlink is an MVNO of Verizon) but I've got to imagine there are some idiosyncrasies in getting the Earthlink unit to tether...
Can someone point me in the right direction? I've searched but found not definitive replys...
Many Thanks in Advance.

I guess I am a late early adopter of new technology.
Posting to see if anyone else has run into this as well as for information for others.
I have called Vzw and had the EVDO added to my account.
I did the update of the roaming list, etc. Updated Host Routing Table.
I think it was the number in the FAQ that I called but not remember 100% for sure but whatever number I called I was then instructed to call Customer Care since I was a b2b user. I was also told I would need my company's tax #, but that was not asked for when I talked to Customer Care. I was asked for my Company's name and their zip code.
Now I am to the point of trying to download the Desktop Mngr software. When I try to download the Desktop Manager I get the following message.
The number you have entered is not a valid Verizon Wireless phone number. To join in call Verizon Wireless at 1.800, etc, etc.
This number was ported from AT&T, either in early 2005 or late 2004. The odd thing is my wife's phone number works, she is now a Verizon customer although up until two weeks ago she had been a AT&T (Cingular) customer. She does not have a BB, I was just testing another number to see if I could get the software to download.
I did download the software using my wife's number but now when I try to install it, it fails.
Details on fail / specific error message to follow, once I run through it one more time.
Selected English for language
Selected primary location US
Selected BB Enterprise Server or BB Desktop Redirector.
Selected MS Exchange.
Redirect Messages using BB Enterprise Server.
Selected Start Desktop Manager Software when Windows starts.
Error: Internal Error 2738
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...r_messages.asp
Going to try to dl the software again, and try to re-install, will post more.
If that does not work I am going to give Vzw a call back to try to find out why I can't dl the software using my BB phone #.

So nothing has changed on this guide yet right? I am going to need to update my 7250 before I go to FL next week because I want to take advantage of the EVDO coverage.
To bad I cant tether with my Powebook yet!

When downloading BlackBerry Desktop from Verizon, and your ported number does not work, use the placeholder number 9785050000 if all else fails.

Verizon Release! Mar 08, 2006 -

Verizon just released a new revision of the software as of today. I have not tested this yet, but will once I get home.

According to the site, this upgrade is only for the 7130e. Let us know if it works on your 7250.

Yes I would be very curious as to whether it would work on the 7250 also, and if it does please test the tethering options once you do, I have upgraded twice to the Telstra and the Sprint 4.1 versions and in both cases I lost tethering functionality.

Well, after trying today 4.1 handhelds will not allow tethering according to verizon. It prompts for a user name and password whereas my 7250 automatically connects. Has anyone had any success with this?

I had the same identical issue with my 7250 after I upgraded to the non-Verizon versions of the 4.1 OS, even after using the ![[email address]](http://www.blackberryforums.com/?emailimage=a6327b4e4b5e21c00bec3c008641c232) format for the user and password. That is why i asked above that if they succeeded with the 7130e loading into a 7250 to try tethering, I have upgraded twice with Telstra and with the Sprint versions and both times had to down grade, I hope that once Verizon releases their version this problem be addressed, otherwise it is not worth it to me to upgrade.

My rep gave me the "It's always done EVDO" when I called. Whatever. According to the tech she talked to, that first feature code does not exist and that software was supposed to have been pulled. The only feature code to add would be for tethering which I don't need. Still waiting for the update to finish.

Did you have VZW add tethering to your account? It was the only way I could get tethering on my 7130 to work.

Yes I have it, and i can tether fine from within 4.0 OS just not able to from 4.1. If you call them and tell them you have a 7250 with 4.1 they tell you sorry they do not support that.
