Default Blackberry Server Issues - 09-24-2009, 07:50 AM

We have 10 users in a BES currently we are using version 4.1.4.26 all of the users are unable to access the internet on their phones. Here is the error message.

HTTP Error 403: Forbidden

We are using exchange 2008.

Not sure if there is a setting on the BES server that is forcing all PDA web traffic though our firewall.

Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks.

Is this something that just started happening - were they able to get to the internet before and can't now?

Yes. They were able to access the internet and now they cant. I had one user who sprint had to reset their phone they were able to access the internet but once I joined them to the BB server they are unable to access. It seems like all of the internet traffic is being pushed to go through our routers. We have authentication setup so each user has to authenticate to access the internet. I tried using the same link on the browser of the phone however this does not work. I'm stumped! Any ideas would be Great.

Two questions:
1. Do you want them to go through corporate firewall/proxy or not?
2. Do you use policy to disable other browsers? If not just use carrier's BIS browser.

No we do not want them to go through the corporate firewall/proxy. We want the users to be able to access any site on the phones. We do not want to disable any browsers.

The BlackBerry smartphone is configured to use the BlackBerry Browser instead of the Internet Browser. The Internet Browser should be selected if you only use the BlackBerry Internet Service.

Resolution

Open the Browser icon.
Display the menu and click Options.
Click Browser Configuration.
Change the Browser field setting to Internet Browser.
Display the menu and click Save Options.
Click General Properties.
Change the Default Browser field setting to Internet Browser.
Display the menu and click Save Options.
Close the Browser, re-open it, and then browse to a web site.

It is weird though that you don't wan't to filter Internet access through device but at the same time with regular workstation you go as far as to enter user credentials to browse internet.
For most people handheld=workstation.
