Is there anywhere in the RIM software that saves the model number of devices that have synced with it? There must be a config or log file somewhere with this information.

In the user\Application Data\Research In Motion\Loader History I found XML containing this:

<HardwareID value="67109892"/>
<PIN value="805468229"/>
<module name="net_rim_bb_phone_model" version="3.7.1.36"/>

Could these be used to determine the model?

If you are referring to BES then yes. It's all in the BESmgmt database. You would have to cross refernece the table that has the software inventory to the table that has the user config.

We're not yet on BES 4.x, which is why we are hoping to find this information within the clients' desktop software.
