Version of BES?
Version of Exchange?
Is your database local or remote? MSDE or SQL?
What version of MDAC? you can use compoent checker to discover that.
Mapi32 and Cdo.dll versions on the BES and Exchange

Permissions shouldn't be an issue as you are able to start the activation.

How big is the users mailbox and how many address book entrys do they have? If you have the BlackBerry Router setup correctly you could try a serial bypass activation. Other then that what is your connection between BES and Exchange? If that's your mail platform.... Are all users on the same mailbox store? Have you ever been able to EA any users? How many users are on the BES? When was the last time the BES was rebooted? (Not the services restarted)

Default Same Issue

I have the same issue and we are running:

BES 4.1
Exchange 2003 w/sp1
DB is local
MSsql
CDO Version 6.5.7226.0 located in C:/windows/system32 BES
CDO Version on Exchange Server Is 6.5.7638.2
Mapi32 on BES Server is 6.5.7226.0
Maoi32 on Exchange server is 6.5.7638.1

User mailbox isn't big. Email comes in from my device but then doesn't leave Outlook.

Thanks

again, the solution is to wipe the handheld then re-activate.

Are you sure it's BES 4.1? I don't even think that is in Beta testing.... If you do have it contact RIM as they would have provided you a support contract with the Beta Software.

When the handheld is stuck at 90% pull the battery when the handheld comes back up it will conntact to the network and it should finish the activation you may need to restart your services if this does not work for you.

Default Ugh...

Same 90% problem here. I have done a full wipe of the handheld and did both a manual activation and an automatic activation, deleted/undeleted the service books to start the activation and every time it stopped at 90% with Tasks, Email options, Email filters, and address book still initializing. Even left it activating overnight and same problem. This is the first 8700 on our BES so I'm wondering if something needs to be set on the server.

If anyone knows anything about this, please let me know.

Thanks,

Kramer

I had a similar problem, frozen up on 90% I deleted the user off the Bes and re added them. Work fine after that. Make sure you select to delete the pervious Blackberry History for that user.

Hope that helps.

Had the exact problem, and it was as a result of the Exchange Admin moving users from one exchange server to another. They finally got help from Rim Support and was able to complete the wireless activation.

Default I had the same problem !!!!

Yep. Same here. The joy of being the Systems Administration/Helpdesk area.

I've had 4 BlackBerry 8700r came in and they all had the same issue with locking up at 90%. At first, I thought it was the server and the setup.. But that was impossible because all our other users on 7100 series are all fine.

The users were added to the BES and as usual, configure the 8700r first time, activate... and hung at 90% forever.

The only solution is what everyone else here is saying, WIPE THE HANDHELD and redo the Activation.

In my case, I wipe the handheld, turned wireless address and calendar off, and use the wire for activation. This turned out to be a fast process and after the activation with all the wireless sync off, I would manually syncronize by wire, then turn on the address, calendar, tasks and memo back to wireless sync.

That was it.

One other thing it can be is a corrupt mailbox entry.

Would try manually syncing contacts via DTM to see if it works then if so try the next etc.

When it dies you would know which item is killing the Sync.

Check the PtTrace.log for the last entry line and this would tell you what item is causing the issue.

Delete that item and then EA would work fine.

When I couldn't get my blackberry handhelds to activate, it was because there was a 100MB quota on the SQL database on SQL 2000. Make sure there is no DB quota set on your BES DB in Enterprise Manager.

just to add to this for refrance.

With 4.0BES and a 7100g I was getting a hanging activation at 97%, always on "memo" i tried wiping and re-activating (incl removing the user and starting from fresh) still always hung. Checked the users "notes" in outlook, and there was a blank memo. Deleted that, and all appears to be well!

Smile

I too had this issue. After talking with tech support, I had to wipe the handheld, remove the user from BES manager. That worked for some of the devices. The other thing TS had me do was, apply SP4 with hotfix 3 (i am using BES 4.0). That seemed to fix all issues until yesterday I had one blackberry activate to 98%. I found that the user had an address in his addressbook that didn't have a name. I put a name in it and the blackberry activated 100%.

Hope this helps.
