I was trying to upgrade the OS on my Blackberry 7100T. BB was connected to computer via USB cable, running the Application loader. It was in the process of upgrading the software it had completed the backup application data steps and loading of the new software. It was stuck at "waiting for device initialization" and stayed on that screen for over an hour. During that period the screen on my BB was completely black despite rolling the trackwheel, etc.

I ended up giving up and disconnected the BB from the USB cable. Now after taking the battery out and putting it back in all I get is a black screen and a blinking red light(it blinks red twice, then pauses for about 5 secs, then repeats).

When I attempt to start up the desktop manager and connect my BB it cannot find the device on the USB connection.

Any help?! argh....

Wipe and reload, it takes a while dont sit and watch it, just walk away and come back in a couple of hours.

How do I wipe and reload it? When I take the battery out of my phone, wait 10 secs, put it back in the screen is black and the LED flashes red twice, and so on and so on.

When I try to connect it via USB to the desktop manager it can't find the device.

Download this, unzip it and run it (read the thread). Using Javaloader you will wipe the handset, this will wipe it clean and if you do not have a backup you will loose all the data, but the other side of the coin is this, it is already lost if you do not get it going again anyway. You have to learn patience when doing upgrades, they are painfully slow and if you disconnect prior to finish in effect you crash the system which is what happened to you. Good Luck restoring it.

Just wanted to thank everyone for the help. I finally got everything restored and the OS reloaded.

It's weird though, I kept getting an "Error: Cannot open port" when trying to use javaloader -usb wipe. I ended up fully uninstalling BB desktop manager and all my USB port in the Windows device manager. Rebooted, reinstalled everything and then Desktop Manager could connect to my BB again. It only took about 10 minutes after that to load the OS.

I'm just happy I got it up and running again.

By the way: The OS upgrade was from 4.0.2.49 to the HongKong 4.1 OS. I must say that there are MANY MANY very good improvements in the new OS! I like it a lot.

mathrock (or anyone for that matter)... what's the drawback to using the Hong Kong version of 4.1? Where do you get it? I am dying for sametime connect....

The Blackberry OS 4 Download FAQ thread has the links at the top, I just used the one for Hong Kong CSL and selected 4.1 OS for 7100g. https://www.blackberry.com/SoftwareD...ient=cB5RB4aRB. So far I've only noticed good things from the new OS. You can now assign "exceptions" to your currently set profile, so for example you can set a separate ringer for different people in your address book. Also the BB web browser now tells you the size of the page when going to a website ex: Loading 12K of 36K...
