Sound works but no rings/alerts/notifications
 

Hello, Apologies if this is already out there (search didn't find it)... I have a 9650 Bold on Verizon net running 6.0.0.524, Platform 4.4.0.438. When I look in the sound profile - doesn't matter which one, and I try a Ringtone, or a Notifier, or a Reminder sound - nothing. When someone calls or a calendar alert triggers, no sound (n) :-(. However, when I go into the Media folder and select All Ring Tones (I don't have any ringtones in My Ring Tones), and select any one of the 38 ringtones, they work just fine (y). So it's not a file issue which I have had in the past.

Any ideas or thoughts are welcome and appreciated.

Have you tried a hard reset? That is, with the power on, remove the battery for at least 30 seconds. If if you haven't done that yet, do it, and then test. If you have done it, do it again, and this time wait a good minute, even two minutes, and then test.

By the way, I don't do much with rings tones. Been using the same ones all along. Did you remove all the tones in the My Ring Tones yourself, or is this a symptom? (EDIT: Actually, either way, maybe it is a symptom.)

Absolutely - I had not tried that. I had turned it off and back on but I didn't do the cold start like you suggested. I will remember that. It's sort of annoying that I should have to do this though. I wonder what bug there is that would have caused it? Anyway - thanks a whole lot. Tom

Glitches happen, just like with any computer and software. A hard reset is the first troubleshooting step, generally. Next time, try a double soft reset. See http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.p..._BlackBerry%3F. Usually that will fix things and avoid a battery pull. If it the double soft reset doesn't fix the problem, then do the hard reset.
